ok, I have been doing a bit of research on the t-5 tranny...which I am considering as an alternative to the t4 simply because of better availabity, anyway, from what I have read any 96-04 v6 T5 should be suffiecient for my needs with a torque rating of 300ft/lbs....however I actually need an input shaft the same length as a 94-95 GT T5...and I cant seem to find out whether these are the same length....or to find a place that just sells the input shaft seperately...I can pick up a t5 from a '00 mustang w/ 60k for $250 as compared to the $500+ I can find a 94-95 GT with 100k+ for, so I was hoping someone could shed some light on this matter for me...maybe a chart with the length of the input shaft for different years and versions of the T5

You can purchase input shafts (like this new one for a 1985-1993 for $72 from ebay (9.3" long), get one used from a wrecking yard, or a 94-95 specific shaft for $93 from this site (PN ALT1352-085-052, Ford part number F4ZZ-7017A, 10" long). You still are ahead of buying a V8 one...

The input shaft you need is going to change depending on which bellhousing you use. Which bell are you going to use ?

well....heres the tricky part...I am going to be using a SHO taurus v6 engine...which can be adapted to a RWD configuration w/ the use of a ford aerostar bellhousing and an adapter plate...however, I would need a 94-96 GT input shaft to use it, at this point I may just chuck the aerostar bellhousing though and just use the mustang bellhousing instead and just make an adapter plate from the engine to the tranny(rather than an adapter plate from the tranny to the aerostar bellhousing)...so pretty much what I am looking to do is convert a FWD ford v6 to RWD and use a T5 transmission...I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually, but its kinda a headache...oh, while I am on the subject... SHOs dont have pilot bearings...so I am actually going to have to use a pilot bushing instead...anyone have a good website for pilot bushings of differing sizes?

About the piolet bearing... I'm sure there is a bearing out there that will fit the size. If there is a bushing that will work, there should be a bearing the same size somewhere.

well, it seems I can use a 5.0 pilot bearing once I get it turned down to fit the SHO crank, and after some rather extensive research I have the conversion figured out and now have a parts list I need to fill...however to get this to work, I will need to use a mustang II 2.8L clutch disk(to fit inside the aerostar bellhousing and still use a t5 spline) but as we all know...mustang IIs arent know n for their power handling capability...I'll have to see what the aftermarket holds for the 2.8 clutch...

Would it be possible to fit the 260 v8 clutch in there ? It is smaller then the 289 clutch and I know it is strong.

I don't know the diamiter of the clutch but I'm sure the splines are the same as the T5. My friend use to use to when he was circle track racing back in the day. He used it because it was a smaller flywheel and clutch. Back in the 70s he was revving his motor over 7000 consistently 50% of the race. He told me if he used a 289 flywheel/clutch he couldn't get it to rev as high (he was using all factory parts). He was using a 4 speed trans out of a 65 Mustang and it fit that input shaft. I believe the 4 speeds and the T5 have the same spline count/spacing.

cool, I'll look into it...I have to use the SHO flywheel though and pressure plate, I'll try to find out if they are compatible

As long as the clutch will physically fit the flywheel, you can have a machine shop drill the flywheel and put in helicoils for the presure plate.
