Well, here are the rest of my T5 questions (it is an 85 WC T5):

1. Where can I find stock replacement (NOT billet) synchro keys? One was broke but the dealer obsoleted those parts

2. How about an affordable 2nd gear? Yes, my 2nd was junk but third was not (?) dealer also obsoleted hmm

3. Where can I get shims for the input and output shafts? my input was wwaaaayyyyy off. Some assemblyman mustve been smoking something?

so, to wrap up, where is a good catalog/vendor with decent prices that sells pieceparts to these transmissions?

A master rebuild kit should include the synchro keys. I do have a T5 in the garage that has some usable parts on it but if I remember right, once they are used they need to be replaced in the same locations/direction on the ring so you would need some new ones. Try getting in touch with a place called "the gear box", www.thegearbox.org. They can probably sell you just the parts you need.

Oh, as far as the shims go, I think that they might be about the same size as some common pinion shims, seems like I had some laying around that matched up and used those. So if you have some pinion shims check that out, or else I'm sure somebody near you has some you could have.

Ebay has them

http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...action=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search

None are listed right now, but i have bought a new 2nd gear for $35 off there before. They actually have a bunch of stuff on there from time to time if you search. I Beleive "The Gear Box" is who i've bought these parts from before. Search ebay for them. I've bought a 2nd gear, 1st gear, 1-2 synchro slider, and reverse idler gear off them. All were about $30 each and are surviving fine in the trans i put them in.

As for synchro keys, contact Hanlon Motorsports

The keys are halfway down on this page. The shim pack is near the bottom....all cheap stuff

I'm pretty sure he's doing this himself.

T-5's are easy as pie to rebuild. I've done 4 and only spent about $100-150 each in parts

I never touch trannys other than install them or take them out. Not sure why not get one cheap on ebay and be done? Performance, these can't take abuse depending on what kind of power you're running. I'd go with a high performance tranny.

I wouldn't trust one.

Besides...i do it for fun. I don't even have a 5-spd. My mustang is currently an AOD.

I've rebuilt 4 pretty much for the hell of it. I kept 2 for myself and sold 2 to friends and they are running fine.
