Hey I'm new to the forum, and since I'm about to but a GT premium I figured it would be only fitting. I have one quick question, What are the top things I should know to keep my car in working shape till it becomes a classic?

Until it becomes a classic? I think it's already a classic in many ways. But as far as until it's a classic and is worth a lot such as the early Mustangs, best thing you can do is live a long life.

keep the body washed and the oil changed. leave it inside a garage.

Change all the fluids when you're supposed to (don't forget trans fluid if its an automatic)

Wash it yourself, not at a drive through car wash, and use a microfiber towel to avoid swirls

Thanks for all the info. It's a manual, not an automatic. and My dealer told me to change the oil every 3000 miles. Also, I've never driven a manual before so I'm still learning.

Respect the power and bear in mind that it's rear wheel drive. Drive it like you love it and not like an idiot and don't race people. Turn your testosterone off when driving. Enjoy the car for what it is. Having a user-name like Maximusnukeage does not instill any great optimism. Take an advanced rdiving course.

Repeat for at least 30 years but bear in mind that in 2037 your car will be competing with at least 50000 "collectors" GT500s bought by idiots for too much money.

Anyhow, tinting the windows sounds like a cool idea, but I want it to look really professional. I'm scared that if I do it there will be air bubbles and it will look like crap.

have a professional do it if you have never done tint. its money well spent.

How do I know which professionals are good? ANd how much do you think It will cost?

talk to other people that have had thier windows tinted. they are the best reference for a good shop. prices are usually $100-$200 depending on your area. be sure to ask for moleskin for the front door windows. the tint shop should know what you mean. this protects the tint from getting scratched on the door panels. many S197 owners have had the scratched tint without the moleskin, including me.

I had my rear and quarter windows done for $150.00 (Driver and passenger window tint is illegal in IL, where I live.)

I added clear bra stuff to the headlights & fogs so they won't fog up over time. you may want to do clear bra on the bumper cover.

Just my 2 cents. My '96 GT is still in the family and it looks pretty much like it did when it was new. Runs the same as well. It gets the same care as my '05 which means religiously following the Ford service recommendations and using nothing but Motorcraft parts and fluids. And, like the other guys said, keep it clean inside and out. Good luck, and by the way, you're going to love that car.
