Will the taller intake fit under the stock hood of my '92 Mustang? I want to use the valve cover that doesn't have the "dip" in it on my '88 TC motor when i put it in the stang so i'll need the taller intake.
Thanks,
WES

From what I've seen the "short" intake has "2.3 Liter EFI" on it while the "tall" intake doesn't (maybe because it's on the valve cover). I'm sure someone will chime in if i'm mistaken. I just measured the "tall" one for you and it is exactly 8" high to the top of the intake (where the TB bolts to) when standing on a table and measured straight down. I tried to measure the "short" intake, but it's still on the engine and it was impossible to get an accurate measurement.

HTH,

I know what you mean My upper is mounted on the engine (on a stand) and I cant get an accurate read on it either. Mine is a smooth one also, I have 2 valve covers one for a tall and one for the short. I am not sure what one will fit without mounting the TB yet. I am looking to mount that this week, and find a new bracket for it too. Anyone have a stock TB bracket laying around?

yes, the tall intake should fit under the hood with no problems. Not sure about the valve cover though.

Yup, tall intake fits under the hood just fine. Tall intake can be used with any 2.3 (ohc) motor valve cover, the shorter intake (the one with the 2.3 liter EFI imprinted on it) must be used with a dipped valve cover.

SVOs and Merkurs have the taller upper intake. 87-88 TurboCoupes have the shorter intake. More info is available here: http://fordturbo.com/option2.html & here: http://fordturbo.com/option6.html Don't know about the Rangers, though.

Thanks for the help Dr_Elusive and Mr_Woodster.

I measured mine with the stock TB mounted from valve cover up and then measured the one that is in the car same with a board crossing over the fenders (to simulate the hood) and it will clear fine.
