I just added a Magnaflow Catback to my Bassani o/r X. The sound is incredible but its just too loud. Once you get pulled over around here the 1st thing the cops do is look for cats, so it looks like I'm heading for a ticket. I called Bassani today and they said they sold cats to fit their systems for $75 each but before I buy them I want to make sure they will infact tone it down a little. Has anyone experimented with the sound of cats on/off? I don't mind to spend the $150 if it keeps me from getting a ticket but I don't want to wast my money either.

Thanks,

what state are you from?

also, why did you buy an o/r X if it's illegal? Why didn't you just go with the catted X?

I live in Virginia

I bought the o/r X because I orginally planed on keeping the stock catback Which it wasn't too loud with.

Check magnaflow cats. I think they sell them individually as well(might be cheaper) and I think they have a better track record as far as passing emissions than the Bassani (in case you need them for that too).

cats will tame the sound down. I think you can get magnaflow cats off ebay way cheaper that $75. you may also be able to do resonated tips or something.

I have only been pulled over once in my life for noise and it was really just checking to see if I was sobber. the cop never looked for cats.

I have never known anybody to get a cat ticket. to they really give them out there?

I've always heard about in some states cops actually will look underneath your car.. in California some of them actually look at your engine and check for any kinda modifications. Glad I live in Kentucky where everybody has a huge, loud, redneck truck!

Yeah, they give them out. I used to have a 82 F150 with straight pipes, gutted cats, and packs. I couldn't go to town without getting pulled over but that was years ago. I wouldn't think they would be any more leanient now.

I thought about magnaflows but the Bassani's bolt right in. I believe the magnaflows would have to be welded.

I've had the cats both in and out of my SLP X-pipe. They definetly quiet the sound down and give you a smoother tone too. However, I prefer the O/R setup.

Yeah, actually thats the way it is around here but in the bigger towns cops really like to pull sports cars over. When I had my truck they always looked under it.

I have an o/r H on my car and its illegal they changed the law a few years ago when the car had the pipe on then. The key is to stop from cops looking under neith your ride is to have it lowered enough to where they can't see

Bassani baffles would help some. You could see if a exhaust shop would custom make you a set of removable cats. Or buy some cheap used stock cats and gut them. No one would know the difference.

I never thought I would see someone post on here that they needed to tame their pony.

On second thought, you might be better off just buying the Bassani cats. The horsepower difference is minimal. You won't even notice it.

Magnaflow CB is loud???? I have O/R X with magnaflows, as long as you keep the RPMs below 3700, its quiet....after that it get pretty loud. Shift lower when around cops. That is unless you got the packs, in which case you should look into those tip silensers. I forget which CO sells them...i was thinking it was bassani though.

yea but the o/r's are illegal in your state correct, isn't it like a $200 fine? I'm trying to understand why you did this in the first place, a catted x pipe would still sound good with the stock catback and be street legal.

Thanks for all the replies. As bad as I hate to part with $, I think I'll give the bassani cats a try.
