I was hearing a clapping sound from the engine when driving. I checked to see if it could be an exhaust like form the headers it wasn't. I then got a hose and put to my ear and it sounded like it was from the number 5 cylinder/ spark plug area. I thought it might be a bent push rod so I took off the valve cover and checked and it wasn't so now I'm thinking stuck lifter. It didn't seem to have anyplay when i tightened the rods back down. What I was wondering is if there's a way to know if its the lifter making the noise or bearings. The noise when I used the hose to my ear sounded more pronounced from the spark plug are which makes me think its probably not a bearing. Any input would be much appretiated. I forgot to mention all rockers are new and rods are new and torqued to spec.

Might be your rod bearing man, I wouldn't start or drive that thing at all until you pull it apart, especially since you know it's in the cylinder

Well I'm still deployed at the moment so it wont be driven soon, but man I hope its just a sticking lifter.

once you get the intake off you'll be able to tell if it's a lifter....if you can't find a lifter, pull the head and check your valves, plus you'll be able to see a mark on the piston where it's coming up and hitting. Did you pull the spark plug in that cylinder? do that before anything and take a look at it, sorry for being all over the place with stuff to do, I just woke up

I don't remember seeing anything odd about the spark plug when I looked at them. It will be sometime in May before I get back home to even get to tear into it. Thanks for the advice. I'm just trying to get my game plan together or when I get back home to mess with it.
