The Cobra that met the wall belongs to Jim Marohn of the Mustang Wranglers. Luckily no one was hurt. Car got swated pretty good though. I got some pics but haven't a clue how to post any of them. I can't even get the avitar thing figured out.
I found the limits of my Toyo T-1S's in the chicane. Didn't get to the wall but came close. Had enough speed reduced going in that the car didn't get far.
It was a great day. Great weather. Good to see everyone there. Feel like I'm on downers now. Amazing the level of concentration it takes to drive a car that fast while turning corners and keep it on the paved part of the track. The pizza and beverages at BJ's was better than what we had last time.

I have two video tracks from my in-car setup. They are kind of cool, but are very large. About 42 and 70 megs. I don't have a way of editing them down or a place to post them a that size.

By far, the most excitement i've had in an automobile in my life!!! (excluding the cheerleader in HS) I can't wait to get at it again. Talk about pushing your car to it's limits.

I think you were the only one to get "Novice Eligible" stamped on your certificate. Even Natural Born Racer didn't get that .

Hey, my brakes never actually caught on fire! Had a great time and it was good to meet all of you. Team continental does it again in October. Think ill see if i can go out with the shelby club in July.
Any one out there who has read the thread this far and not taken a class yet, needs to go take the Team Continental school in October

It was nice to see everyone, and the weather was as perfect as it gets.

I had an excellent time, and I learned a lot... even if I didn't set my brakes on fire like some people.

Yeah, it was great. The weather was almost too good. I have a helluva sunburn. And it was great to see so many Stangs running (I think I counted 9). And it's good to put the faces with the names....

I do think I had a little bit more seat time the last outing. But, I have no complaints about yesterday. Wait until you go again. It gets better every time....

Not fire just smoke

The first time I went out, I had a small burst of flames from my front brakes (or so I was told). It turned out to be the grease from the wheel bearing. I had to get them replaced... But, I didn't have anyone run at me with a fire extinguisher.....

I have a helluva sunburn.

Yeah, me too. It started out so nice and cool outside that I totally forgot about it, until I noticed my neck was itchy about mid-day. By then it was waaaaay too late, but I did put some sunscreen on.

After yesterday I am working on a "to remember" list for next time. So far ...

1. Glass cleaner & paper towels
2. A couple of rolls of painter's tape (since you'll be lending it to everyone else )
3. Cooler & ice to keep the water cold
4. Sunscreen & hat

Not at the brake check -- he did comment several times on the horsepower coming down the straights. Funny thing is, I think the Cobra is a bit of a dog with the stock pulley. Too bad I couldn't take him for a spin with the 2.76 installed .

Man, that ride in the RX7 was awesome!!! I had a death grip on the rollbar, but I loved it. He was really pushing that car.

See. Now, I don't get that. How did he do that? Not that it matter, but I got Novice Eligible. To get it, you have to pass two schools.

I know he did good. So, either he's done this before (???but he was in Group 1???), or he bribed the instructor, or Team Continental screwed up....

It's a real shame, too. I don't know if I have the story down. But, when I talked to Jim, I think he said he had been coming through the turn in 3rd gear. And the instructor said he could use 4th. Anyway, something about shifting when coming into the corner, his rear wheels either locked-up, or he got wheel-hop. And this sent him out of control. When he got onto the grass, it was like skating on ice. The pictures say the rest....

Unless you want to drive to tri-ities, WA, I don't think there's a lot going on.

My instructor was very specific about doing all of the braking & downshifting before turn-in, and then staying on the throttle through the turn. Mastering the art of rev-matching would seem to be a worthwhile goal. I'll add that to my list, right after "Watch for checkered flags" . I'm still debating on whether or not left foot braking is something I want to learn anytime soon or not. Some of the instructurs seemed to be stressing it, and yet several [experienced] people that I talked to on Wednesday thought it was a mistake to have beginners doing that.
