I work with a guy who bought an 8.8 at the columbus swap meet. It has a 3.73 gear but no axles, well he tried to put his axles in it but he cannot get the axles to slide back out far enough to put the cross pin back in, so what he did is grind 1/8" off the end of each axle. I do not know alot about rearends but it sounds like he did not get everything put together right, and maybe something is not seated all the way, and when it does he is going to have an awful lot of play. I told him that may be why the rearend had no axles to begin with. Let me know what you all think.. Thanks Guys...

Grinding and axles should not go in the same sentence ever. You're saying you got the axles in the housing / carrier and they won't slide back out to install the cross pin.... What is it like sliding the axles into the housing? They should move in and out pretty easily
I have no idea what is up I have not seen it he was telling us about it at lunch one day, he said he put the axles in put the c-clips in and went to install the cross pin and it would not go. So he took an old cross pin and hammered on it and it made grooves about 1/8" in on each side so he figured he should take that much off of each axle, I thought the axles only had about 1/4" after the c-clip anyways. I told him for days not to do it and he did it anyways. I know I will not be riding in his car EVER. This guy is a dumba$$ he did not take the c-clips out a 7.5 he just tried to beat the axles out with a hammer. He told us he did not know they have c-clips, so I asked him if he took the nuts off of the c-clip eliminator and he said no, I told him thats because they have c-clips.. Thank GOD this guy bought the car with an already built 351 or it may never run..

I think when this guy starts driving this car it is going to have so much play it is going to come apart and cause him to wreck, he has a friend who he calls the Man, told him you will have no problem grinding the axles down. I told him if the MAN told him that, then the MAN is a complete DUMBA$$..
