I just recently purchased my first mustang, 2005 base convertible v6, torch red. What took me so long!?

Only issue I have is that sometimes the temp hand goes all the way to hot, but I really don't believe its hot. I can check under the hood and nothing seems overheating and it still runs just as good. I can shut it down for a while and start it back up and its fine.

Most of the time it reads normal temp but sometimes it does this. I suppose my thermostat could be sticking but I'm wondering if the sending unit or sensor or guage is a problem in these.

TIA
