UM-
About a week or two back you suggested I get a dyno "like yesterday" when I said I bought an 03' Cobra without knowing its history & it wasn't running too well.
I took it in today. The tech told it it was dangerous lean to the point it would have blown up down the line, but he's confident I'm good.
Went in with 410hp.
Came out cleaner & healthier, smoother & faster. ...and 481 torque & 551hp (...and climbing) at 6200rpm at the rear wheel & only 11.4 a/f.

Thanks for your advice!
Mick

P.S. - If anyone needs a tune in So.Cal., I can't stress it enough - go see Shawn Ellis at So. Cal. Tuning & Performance. He's the Cobra Doctor.

First off I'm glad to hear you took it in and had it checked. It's potentially very dangerous to be driving around in a supercharged car not knowing whether it's running lean or not.

So you took it to Shawn huh? I've heard good things and bad things about Mr. Ellis. I'm glad you had a good experience with him and his services.

I am a little concerned with the numbers though.... 551HP from an Eaton is WAY UP THERE! Do you know if that is crank or rear wheel HP? When you stated a few weeks ago the car had a 12psi Whipple pulley let me ask you this... is your supercharger grey or black in color? What other mods does this car have that you know of?

Please get back with me 'cause I'm sure all of us '03/'04 owners would like to know what your combo is! 551HP & 481TQ is great!

I think he may have typed the hp and tq backwards......... I have NEVER seen an eaton car with 551 hp and 481 tq.

Here's the deal:
For one, I've learned a lot about the car in the last week or so. The readings were real wheel - not crack.
It's got a Whipple supercharger, with 13lb upper and a 3 lb lower pulley. I'm getting about 16-17 lbs of boost. On top of that is 60lb injectors, K&N Cold Air intake, Magnaflow exhaust, heat exchanger, and a few lesser goodies that drive it up as quick as it is. Pardon my ignorance, but I had no idea what I bought folks who know better have told me - "dude, you got a steal".

About Shawn - Yeah, I know his reputation is just a bit mixed, but I tend to get a pretty good read on folks. He seemed extremely genuine with me, and took the time to answer all my questions - there were plenty of them. And he left me feeling very welcomed to call him for future questions, thoughts, etc., and not because he wanted more of my money. Not knowing the skills of other tuners, I unconditionally recommend using Shawn and will give his humber/e-mail, etc. to anyone who wants it. (...What is PM? ...a few people have asked me to do that.)

One quick question though, and I've got a call in to try and get an answer. If anyone who knows wants to reply sooner, I'd appreciate a quick answer. Driving home an hour or two ago in normal traffic, I did have the car stall on me as I was rounding a turn at about 15 mph while the clutch was depressed. Engine light never came on, and there was no sputter/backfire anything. The battery light lit up, and I quickly noticed it. I turned the key it over, and it immediately started up while I still going about 5 or 10 mph, and I was on my way - absolutely no incident. I went the final mile or two home and it ran brilliantly like it has since the minute I got my tune.

Does this seems like a normal 'hiccup' as the car adjusts to a new tune? Honestly, I'm not real concerned - unless someone tells me a should be.

Thanks, Mick

Your new tune would have only been adjusting the WOT (pedal to the metal) condition. Your standard factory tune that came from the factory had a revision which prevented a stalling condition when coasting at low RPM.

What chip/programmer are you running? Also run your VIN through oasis to see if the computer had been flashed by Ford.

You have the dreaded "Stall". It's a pretty common problem with the early run '03's. I have the problem too, but only in the cool winter temps. I didn't want to take my car in to have the new calibration uploaded, then have to turn around and get my previous tune re-created to work with the new calibration... so I just learn to drive in a manner which prevents the stall from occurring.

P.S. YOU GOT A MONSTER CAR MICK! BE CAREFUL AND ENJOY!
