The car decided to throw a code! P0190

I fired it up earlier after I fixed the window and it would hardly stay running and definatly had a very bad miss....then it pretty much straightened itself out and ran fine. Drove it for about 35-40 miles and as I was pulling back into the driveway I noticed the engine light was on  .
Took it down to autozone and if I recall correctly it was throwing P0190 and the scanner was saying something about the fuel rail pressure sensor.

So what would cause this? Reason I ask instead of just buying a new sensor is because while on the drive my fuel pressure momentarily dropped to around 10PSI (via my gauge) and instantly jumped back up. Something to do with the Ford GT fuel pump not liking the car still accelerating when you arnt pushing the throttle (IE going down hill) and it will start building fuel pressure up to sometimes over 50PSI. And when you get to 1500RPMs or touch the gas, the fuel pressure nose dives and this time went all the way down to 10PSI before it cought itself. Usually it only goes to around 20.
Could that have triggered it?

Oh and the car is missing worse than normal...and sometimes the RPMs will surge. And trying to drive anywhere below 1600RPM makes the car buck, even in 4th gear. Also something in the engine doesnt sound right...almost sounds like one of the cyclinders isnt hitting correctly and gas is being pumped out. Just the way the exhaust sounds as its exiting the engine through the headers.

Oh and should I not go into boost with this code? Thanks :)

I've heard of the FRPS going out on Kewbra's all the time.

I think it's a ford thing!!! Google "Ford mustang FRPS" and see what you get!

Then test your coil packs and see which one is week!

Good luck and I hope you get it running strong soon!

FRPS goes out all the time on f/i

Its so bad some guys carry a spare in the glove box. Its pretty serious because gas will be getting in your oil via the FRPS vacuum line. They cost about $45 I believe and are typically stocked.

Maximum Motorsports makes a special metal disk that will protect the flimsy diaphram in the FRPS and keep it from failing. They charge $35 for this glorified washer

Pull the vacuum line on your FRPS, if you smell gas in it you got a problem.

Change your oil if you think you got some gas in it.

Thanks guys! So is this the device that can overload if you put on a KB BAP? Maybe my fuel pump going 100% duty cycle @5200 killed it  .

Im not sure how gas is going to get into my oil though...none of my vacuum lines go to the PCV system. It would just drip down the intake manifold right? Crap id be more worried about a darn "nitrous" back fire!

I pulled the battery - terminal to see if it goes away HAHA.
Ill go smell my vacuum lines right now... :rlaugh: that sounds rediculous!

Oh and my NX fuel rail block is setting under this...I just installed a fuel pressure sensor for my gauge there before we got the car running a few months back.

Hum, how serious is this? I have a pretty much stock GT, compared to the OP anyway, but I have gotten this code for maybe 20,000 miles. I never noticed anything actually wrong with the car, and the code doesn't actually throw the CEL (?????). Every time I get another code though the P0109 is always there. It's always there when there are no other codes. I have no idea whats up with it.

Is it something I should be worried about?

the p0109 code is for a intermittently faulty BARO signal. this is MAF issue and should be fixed

Had a slight smell of gas...maybe its just slightly leaking and threw the code. Ill buy a new one soon. Only place to get one at the Ford house? Or does autozone carry some?

I would get one ASAP, with the FRPS faulty you can run lean..

Thanks SVT :nice: . I think I may buy one anyways.

But as a little update, I pulled the battery terminal off for about an hour and reset it. Took it easy the first 65 or so miles...no CEL. Been romping on it and still no CEL light  . Iv driven about 200 miles.

I THINK what caused it is when the fuel pressure nose dived to 10PSI...I bet that sent a trigger to the ECU telling it that the sesor must be bad if its reading 10#s of fuel pressure :rlaugh: .

If this thing was really bad, wouldnt my CEL come back on?

yeah that could cause it too.. and yes it should have come back on now.. BUT you have a turbo car and I would not take a chance with a possibly bad FRPS

the ecu throws that code if fuel rail pressure drops below....32psi?

thats the one I had. fuel pump at max duty cycle around 5200. Not saying that is your problem, but I wouldnt romp on it until you KNOW its fixed.
