The easiest things............

Anyone ever noticed how the easiest things always become so complicated.

1. Went to auto parts store. Asked for intake manifold gaskets for a 1970 351 Cleveland, with 2 barrel heads. Get home, prep the block for the intake, open gasket box, and the gaskets don't look like what I expected. Don't fit quite right either. Look at box, gaskets are for a 1970 351 Windsor, not a Cleveland.

2. Decide to put new oil pan on instead. Anyone who has ever done this WITH the engine in the car knows how much of a knuckle busting, back breaking chore this is. Get under car with new pan, attempt to put it on, and it doesn't fit. It's a no name, knock off oil pan (learned my lesson on that one).

At that point I gave up and took a shower. Cracked open a cold beer, and watched some recorded Horsepower TV on Tivo.

I'll start over fresh tomorrow when I have had some sleep and gained back some patience.

Hijacking in progress......How about the winning numbers in the California Lottery for tomorrow night....$100 million expected! I'll buy you a new old Stang with a new engine! :D

I'll top that and even throw in a pair of fuzzy dice! :hail2:

Not with the right oilpan and Felpro's one piece gaskets :D

Yes, yes, I know. Well I have to go back to the parts store to get the RIGHT intake gaskets. I was thinking about picking up a one piece gasket and giving it another shot. Regarndless thought, it's still not "easy"

WooHooo. I won. I got the oil pan in.
See, that wasn't so hard, was it? :rlaugh: Want to come on over here and try your hand at the 390 oilpan in my 68 Merc Monterey  It's got an annoying little leak in it, since day one, but isn't bad enough to pull the motor :( Can't tell if it's the rear main causing it or the CJ windage tray  either way, the motor has to come out at least partially to fix it, something I don't care to do at the moment. :(

Lol. I would, but Louisiana is kind of a long drive.

Long ? Only takes a day. :D Used to leave the house here in the AM and be in NC by Midnight :nice: I'll even let you see the rest of my FE stash. Got a MR 427 for sale too :hail2:

That sounds right, about 18-20 hours.

I can't buy anymore toys right now. We are selling our house, so I have to keep my garage somewhat clean.

Well, I got my Edelbrock Performer intake put on, after 3 trips to the parts store to get the right intake manifold gaskets. You would think that people in a parts store would have some knowledge of cars.

You would think that, but I have since learned that most parts people just take your information, plug it into the computer (which of course was also programmed by people who don't know cars, just parts #s), take the information, grab what the computer says is right and say here you go. Good luck and have a nice day. That is it. :notnice:

What frustrates me is when they DON'T get the correct part the computer tells them to get.

Anyway, how much do you charge for carb rebuilds?

one of my friends unkles put a 350 in a ranger :nonono: . well anyway he went to the parts store to get a few things one of them happened to be an oil filter. he told the guy i need a oil filter for a sbc, he said what is it for . then he said again about a 73 to 98 chevy or so. and the clerk got sorta frusterated and said " i need to know exactly what vehicle it is in!" so he said "its in a 1987 ford ranger" after a few moments of clicking on the keyboard the dumbass sais there is no listing for a 350 in a ranger the closest engine in it is a 4.0 that must be what you want. he promptly left :spot:
