Cool story, and very similar to my own experience in getting my first 5.0 back in '87. I was 18 years-old and was pretty obsessed with the 85GT, and yes, while I did have a job I also got help from mommy. Fortunately for me though my dream was not deferred. Although in hindsight it probably should have been deferred because I was a maniac behind the wheel.

Bought my first mustang back in 89.
5.0 LX 5 speed.
Had some help for the first few months until I got a different job. Then I paid for it all.
Still have it today. 44k miles on it.
