Throughout the years, there have been several fox articles about porting stock heads, t-bod, maf or no maf car with full aftermarket exhaust running high 12's to low 13's. However, this was when the cars were new, and also is what I think you were getting at in your post. Now that most of them are well over the 100K mark, most are tired and sloppy in stock form ,or slightly modified, and now, in this day and age, have a hard time holding a candle to the new S-197's; again agreed.

It cracks me up that some members on here will live and die by the 5.0. Certainly it was a great car for its time... like the 55 Chevy was, but to compare it to an S-197 is a hard feat. I can vow that my 93 coupe, even with welded in frame ties and with it only having 85K on the clock still does not feel any where near as tight as my uncle's 08GT. My 04GT does not feel as tight and it feels tighter than my coupe, which is why I enjoy it as a DD.

As far as modifications are concerned, I also am amazed on how most S-197's can bolt on an exhaust, cai, and a tune and knock down any where from a mid 12 with slicks and a gear to low 13's on street tires and stock 3.55's. We are talking heads, cam, intake manifold, injectors, t-bod, maf, gear, and full exhaust with some sort of sticky tire on a fox to make that happen.

I mean really, if C&D can make a '10 GT run low 13's @ 103, then 5.0 or MM&FF should easily have that car in the 12's and cool air. No fox that was factory bone stock could ever dream of hitting 12's, even if someone added a 4.56 and a set of slicks.


On another note, Mustang is a car that you can live with everyday! Easier to park, friendlier, according to the experts, to drive on a daily commute and still rewarding on the weekend. This is what keeps consumers coming back for more. I certainly would love if Ford had an all aluminum pushrod 5.8 liter mill that thumped down diesel torque at the flick of a light switch, but nontheless, they have done a fine job sharpening up the response on the 4.6. I believe that Ford, for the most part, has done an excellent job capturing the spirit of the Mustang, which allows it to live up to its heritage for many future generations to come. Thankfully it didn't turn into the Probe in 94.

well i think Ford doesnt do that for many reasons, first off they're pony cars not muscle or sports cars, Ford will give them plenty to be decent but nothing to be spectacular, (even the new gt500kr lost to the Z06) dont get me wrong, im a ford man at heart but you cant expect these cars to keep up stock for stock with these other brands, first off what car company isnt going under, Ford, and why because they stick with what makes them money and and what their customers can afford, and that in turn sparks a plethora of aftermarket options that employ thousands of people every year, while i think all the new pony cars look like puke, i can understand why Ford did what they did, if i were to buy any new car it would be an 05 GT with a cervinis c500 kit and leave it at that, but thats just me, but i'll always have my fox

How is an S197 easier to park than a Fox? Those friggin' things are HUGE. (Unless you were comparing the Mustang to a Camaro or Challenger...?)

Better turning radius? Not sure, backing in an S-197 is a feat, I can't imagine the new Camaro and Challenger!

13s now-a-days isn't anything special. If that means some of us are hard to please... well that might be true. Corvettes have been doing the 13s, with 30 mpg LONG ago. Fbodies were doing it back in the 90s as well...

Also to note, with the creature comforts, those of us that don't want them, probably wont go to the dealer and buy a new car. How many here who want vinyl seats, no radios and bare bones stripper car to flog at the track and hot rod around, could and would actually go to a dealer and buy one new?

Camaro SS: 426hp, 13.0 @ 111.6, curb weight 3859lb
Challenger SRT8: 425hp, 13.0 @ 109.7, curb weight 4145lb

That just about says it all. Despite having ~425hp each, they can still only muster a 13.0 1/4 mile because they weigh near 4000lb. Yes, they're big heavy beasts but I still wouldn't mind having both in my garage.
So what about the 2010 Mustang GT? It's a lightweight by comparison (curb weight 3572lb) so despite having 110hp less, it's only 0.5sec behind to the 1/4 mile (13.5 @ 104.2). At near 3600lb it's still heavy and it has an engine with only 4.6L displacement.
Which brings me to our beloved '94-'95 SN95 Mustang 5.0. It's more aerodynamic and lighter than all three of the above. Strip out some weight, do a few choice mods, and you'll have a beast that'll outperform and outhandle that trio. Save your money, keep your '94-'95 5.0, mod the hell out of it, and watch a few Camaro SS and Chellenger SRT8 owners' jaws drop.
