The New Camaro

Barf barf and more barf

it is gonna fail for the same reasons the previous gen failed. very user un-friendly. its impossible to see out of, far too swoopy and 304hp V6 may seem good from an enthusiast standpoint but its more than the average secretary, new driver or older dude wants, needs or can handle, and some people will shy away from it for that reason.

The mustang is the car for every man, and thats why it has stood the test of time. Even biased car and driver magazine voted the Mustang GT tops over the Camaro SS and Challenger R/T even though it has less power. Its more comfortable, more practical, sounds better and is more overall fun because you can actually live with the car while going fast.

This camaro wont last long.

Saw a black one at the track, it was a high 13 second pig, its heavy, ugly, hard to see out of and anyone who thinks it looks good I can loan you my reading glasses.
I do like the challenger and it is much faster than the cramaro.

A car running a 13-second quarter mile is a "pig?" Damn, man ... you've got some high standards.

I'm not sure which magazine's stats you're looking at, but in all the ones I've seen thus far, the Camaro SS beats out the Challenger R/T and Mustang GT in acceleration.

But yeah, it's an ugly mofo, and I'd much sooner pick a Mustang GT over that thing anyday ... even with the 2010's ugly rear end.

Does anyone know why all the new cars that are coming out today are so friggin huge? I find it funny how most people don't seem to realize how big an S197 is. It may look smaller compared to the new Camaro and Challenger but its still pretty damn big. Apart from the depreciation, cheapo plastic construction, and sky high insurance rates, that's one major reason why I HATE new cars.

Possibly because of all the Federal requirements for impact safety and emissions, and all the creature comforts so many people expect to be standard or at least optional now, in addition to tons of sound insulation and all that ... I guess they have to bloat the car out to make all that crap fit in there. It's not like back in the day when cars were made with body-on-frame construction and all they had to do was leave enough room for a motor, transmission, and at least two seats, then wrap the whole thing with some groovy lookin' sheetmetal.

Last time I saw my '89 notch parked next to an S197, the thing looked like a Pinto sitting next to a Crown Vic. :nonono:

Its not that 13`s is all that slow but for a car of that hp you would think faster.
Too heavy to beat a 12 sec challenger.
Ford needs to quit screwing around and put that 5.4 in the gt. I think ford and dodge did a good job on the retro look of two cars I have allways liked, chevy on the other hand came up with a ugly car that don`t resemble any camaro I know of.

I love the Camaro. In fact I truly love the current big 3. Mustang (of course), Camaro, and Challenger. If I had the money and a 3 bay garage, I'd own them all.

+1

There is a sick nasty yellow w/black stripes Camaro up on the Boardwalk. I must say, it is pretty niceee looking. I am a huge mustang fan, but I am a car ENTHUSIAST.. Thus I like many cars. Its a sweet ride.

Um, yes? A stock 200hp fox will go 13s. That's slow as balls my friend. Now a 400+ hp car going 13s? Sounds like a damn Supra. Ooooooh ahhhhhh 300hp V6!!! That's great, but you need 300hp to move 4k lbs as fast as a geo. What a ****in joke.

When they first came out with the new Mustang it was a decent design, but still a heavy, slow pig. Then in 2010 they decide to destroy anything at all that the car had going for it.

I HATE Mopar products, but the Challenger is by far the best looking of the 3. And a heavy, slow pig.

I'm a Chevy guy at heart, and LS based motors > *. But I can admit GM completely dropped the ball on the Camaro. What an ugly, slow ass, pile of ****.

Maybe if you strip down a coupe and run it on slicks within an inch of its life. Otherwise they're running anywhere from low-14's, to mid-15's. Now that may have been decent for the late-80's and early-90's, but its still considered family sedan performance by todays standards.

As far as the new Mustang goes. A bone stock full weight car running mid-13's, knocking down almost 30mpg and still putting out 315hp with only 4.6L of displacement. Heavy or not, that's impressive no matter how you look at it.

Its no uglier, slower, or less a piece of **** than the last generation of F-bodies.

I see your point with blackened88lx.

Throughout the years, there have been several fox articles about porting stock heads, t-bod, maf or no maf car with full aftermarket exhaust running high 12's to low 13's. However, this was when the cars were new, and also is what I think you were getting at in your post. Now that most of them are well over the 100K mark, most are tired and sloppy in stock form ,or slightly modified, and now, in this day and age, have a hard time holding a candle to the new S-197's; again agreed.

It cracks me up that some members on here will live and die by the 5.0. Certainly it was a great car for its time... like the 55 Chevy was, but to compare it to an S-197 is a hard feat. I can vow that my 93 coupe, even with welded in frame ties and with it only having 85K on the clock still does not feel any where near as tight as my uncle's 08GT. My 04GT does not feel as tight and it feels tighter than my coupe, which is why I enjoy it as a DD.

As far as modifications are concerned, I also am amazed on how most S-197's can bolt on an exhaust, cai, and a tune and knock down any where from a mid 12 with slicks and a gear to low 13's on street tires and stock 3.55's. We are talking heads, cam, intake manifold, injectors, t-bod, maf, gear, and full exhaust with some sort of sticky tire on a fox to make that happen.

I mean really, if C&D can make a '10 GT run low 13's @ 103, then 5.0 or MM&FF should easily have that car in the 12's and cool air. No fox that was factory bone stock could ever dream of hitting 12's, even if someone added a 4.56 and a set of slicks.

On another note, Mustang is a car that you can live with everyday! Easier to park, friendlier, according to the experts, to drive on a daily commute and still rewarding on the weekend. This is what keeps consumers coming back for more. I certainly would love if Ford had an all aluminum pushrod 5.8 liter mill that thumped down diesel torque at the flick of a light switch, but nontheless, they have done a fine job sharpening up the response on the 4.6. I believe that Ford, for the most part, has done an excellent job capturing the spirit of the Mustang, which allows it to live up to its heritage for many future generations to come. Thankfully it didn't turn into the Probe in 94.

well i think Ford doesnt do that for many reasons, first off they're pony cars not muscle or sports cars, Ford will give them plenty to be decent but nothing to be spectacular, (even the new gt500kr lost to the Z06) dont get me wrong, im a ford man at heart but you cant expect these cars to keep up stock for stock with these other brands, first off what car company isnt going under, Ford, and why because they stick with what makes them money and and what their customers can afford, and that in turn sparks a plethora of aftermarket options that employ thousands of people every year, while i think all the new pony cars look like puke, i can understand why Ford did what they did, if i were to buy any new car it would be an 05 GT with a cervinis c500 kit and leave it at that, but thats just me, but i'll always have my fox

How is an S197 easier to park than a Fox? Those friggin' things are HUGE. (Unless you were comparing the Mustang to a Camaro or Challenger...?)

Better turning radius? Not sure, backing in an S-197 is a feat, I can't imagine the new Camaro and Challenger!

13s now-a-days isn't anything special. If that means some of us are hard to please... well that might be true. Corvettes have been doing the 13s, with 30 mpg LONG ago. Fbodies were doing it back in the 90s as well...

Also to note, with the creature comforts, those of us that don't want them, probably wont go to the dealer and buy a new car. How many here who want vinyl seats, no radios and bare bones stripper car to flog at the track and hot rod around, could and would actually go to a dealer and buy one new?

Camaro SS: 426hp, 13.0 @ 111.6, curb weight 3859lb
Challenger SRT8: 425hp, 13.0 @ 109.7, curb weight 4145lb

That just about says it all. Despite having ~425hp each, they can still only muster a 13.0 1/4 mile because they weigh near 4000lb. Yes, they're big heavy beasts but I still wouldn't mind having both in my garage.
So what about the 2010 Mustang GT? It's a lightweight by comparison (curb weight 3572lb) so despite having 110hp less, it's only 0.5sec behind to the 1/4 mile (13.5 @ 104.2). At near 3600lb it's still heavy and it has an engine with only 4.6L displacement.
Which brings me to our beloved '94-'95 SN95 Mustang 5.0. It's more aerodynamic and lighter than all three of the above. Strip out some weight, do a few choice mods, and you'll have a beast that'll outperform and outhandle that trio. Save your money, keep your '94-'95 5.0, mod the hell out of it, and watch a few Camaro SS and Chellenger SRT8 owners' jaws drop.

I'd love to drive an American car right now, but the Domestic market doesnt offer a RWD biased AWD vehicle until the 2009 CTS4 came out.

260HP on the base model, 304HP with Direct Injection, RWD biased AWD, sexy looks. I think I've found something I can see myself in after my G35x.

Ford needs something like this too. The MKZ just doesn't cut it and the Lincoln LS was pretty damn close to a winner if it didn't fall apart after 2 years.

Officially Official: 2010 Ford Taurus SHO!

Powered by a 365hp Twin Turbo 3.5L Ecoboost V6, Torque sensing All-Wheel-Drive, Six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission....sex on wheels.

If I ever had an intent on buying a real domestic driver, I'd be setting my sights on this baby. :nice:

They look like crap and weigh about the same as a tank. The challenger came out much better looks wise imo but is also a tank. The the new camaro weighed 3000-3200 lbs it would be sweet, or at least no more then the 98-02 style.
