Well the new season is upon us...and yes I have the privilege of being a fan of the reining FBS BCS champs. LSU plays the FCS champs in Appalachian St. to kick off the season...yes the same Appy St that took down Michigan in the Big House last season.

The defense for LSU will be OK even with the loss of Glenn Dorsey. The big question mark will be at QB with three scholly players with a total of 2 minutes of season play between them. The QB stud in Ryan Perrilloux couldn't keep himself out of trouble so he was booted and now at Jacksonville St (Alabama).

Now just don't spout "My team is "insert name here". Woohoo...Give a brief synopsis of the season you think they will have.

Well, my team is.... FLORIDA! WOOHOO!!!

But no, really, Florida is going to be a very good team this year. The offense is going to be FLAT OUT SCARY with Tebow, Harvin, James, and others returning, as well as our new powerhouse guys Rainey and Demps (talk about speed!!!!). Oh yeah, and dont forget our USC transfer Moody....

The real challenge for UF this year is whether or not our defense can step it up A LOT from last year. I believe we can, with the fact that we have experience for almost all our guys now, as well as a few new key players (Will Hill for example) to fill some gaps we had last year.

If our defense can step it up a bit, our offense will have no issue putting up the points. I foresee it likely being a #1 UGA vs #2 (maybe 3, since we started at 5) UF, both undefeated, game in Jacksonville, with the winner likely going on to win the SEC championship, and have a shot at the national championship. I think this will be UF's game, due to the fact that, when you think about it, UGA did not really beat UF that badly last year, with Tebow hurt, none of our new power players, and our suck-ass defense. They DO Have Moreno, who is awesome, and Stafford, who is ok, but the rest of UGA is really not that amazing....

As far as other teams in the SEC this year, I feel we'll have the hardest time against Auburn, just because we always do. LSU will be good, but not like last year, due to their loss of key players.

I AGAIN think it's a joke that OSU is ranked so highly. The OSU vs USC game will be big, and I am putting my money on USC. IF (and that's a huge if) OSU can show that they can play, and actually do well against USC, then they MIGHT be able to make a legitimate claim at the national championship.... where they'll probably just lose to another SEC team! haha!

I am super super stoked, and ready for the season to begin. I am really sad I wont be at UF this year to see the games, and am going to try to make it back for one game, but I will definitely be watching all I can on my new HDTV!!!!

My team (Purdue) will suck and finish 7-5 or 8-4 like normal.

I am no OSU fan but I think its kinda funny that everyone bangs on OSU for losing two title games in a row. Especially considering last year OSU was ranked #7 after their last game and everyone above them lost. They werent expecting to make it but much like LSU, OSU backed in. Even an OSU fan will tell you that they werent the second best team in the country it just happend to work out that way. Now with that being said the LSU team that OSU played was also the LSU team that killed Va Tech, it was not the LSU that lost to UK or Arkansas. LSU was fully healthy and there wasnt any team in the country that would have beaten them that night in their back yard. Even though OSU was technically ranked #1 LSU was the favorite by a good bit. I think OSU played them pretty tough, there were some key penalties and special teams plays that swayed momentum back to LSU when OSU was getting it back. LSU was a great team and OSU during what was supposed to be a rebuilding year played them pretty tough.

The game against Florida was really the only game in the 0-9 vs the SEC in bowl games that OSU was a favorite to win. Go look back at the other games and the majority of the games the SEC was higher ranked with a much better record. Do I think OSU was better than they showed against UF, yes. There are tons of excuses but it all boils down to UF came to play and was a much better team that night.

But to insinuate that OSU is somehow not a top 5 team is a joke. Their record speaks for itself with 1 title, 3 title games, 4-2 in BCS games and one of the best records in football the past 5 season or so.

I am only going to make one response to this, because I dont want to turn this thread into a pissing match.

Me thinking it's a joke is my opinion, and I am going to continue to have that opinion until OSU can prove otherwise. To do so, they need to play several tough teams, and win in a style that makes them look like a good team. Did they deserve to be in the NC game the last 2 years? SURE! They got there through the way the BCS works, and, due to how it works, it's in their favor. They looked great in 06, but they also played pretty easy opponents. In 07, it was the "back-in" situation you mentioned. The thing that makes me think it's a joke is not where they end, but where they start. I am calling their top 5 preseason rank the joke, not their past record. They have done very well in recent history, but from what I have seen of them for the upcoming season is not worthy of a top 5 spot, to me. For their sake, I hope they prove me wrong, and change my mind this year.

I'm sticking to my theory that the winner of OSU/USC will play the winner of UF/UGA in the NC game....

If ULM goes 5-5, I'll be happy, but since I don't live in La anymore, I hear nothing about the team, so I can't say they will be good our bad. Hopefully good, as they can contend for a bowl game. If they make the NO Bowl this year, I'll go

I would like to see them beat Auburn for the opening game (much like we did to Alabama last season), but who knows

Did you see Les Miles comment about Alabama? Miles told fans at an LSU booster club meeting in New Orleans last weekend "not to make too much of that (Alabama) game, as it seems like a lot of teams in Louisiana beat that team."

They have a write-up almost everyday on ULM in the Baton Rouge Advocate. Just a short blurb here and there but enough to keep up.

While I think Tebow will do well I also think teams have found a way to stop him. Plus the Heisman will be a target on his back. As far as the SEC I think Georgia is the one to beat.

My team is UCLA

Hope this season they can actually be consistent and be able to hold a lead and not blow it in the 4th, like they have done the previous seasons. Injuries too that was a problem last season that will hurt them down the stretch if they get key players out

Any reason you think UGA will be the best?

I think Tebow will be running a LOT less, which is huge, because that means it's almost like teams have to "re-figure" him out...

Name 5 teams you think are better? I know you think all 12 SEC teams are better right? The only possible teams that could be ranked ahead of OSU imo are Oklahoma, USC, and Georgia. Certainly not Kansas, Missouri, Florida, LSU, WVU, Clemson, etc.

To your point about them not playing anyone in 2006, if they beat Florida in the championship game they would have been the first time a team beat three teams who were ranked #2 at the time.

The only year you can argue with OSU's schedule being weak was last season. It was pretty darn bad and no they didnt deserve to be there. Thats why they were ranked so low after they beat Michigan. They were expecting Rose Bowl and backed into title game.

If you look at OSU last season that was supposed to be their year. Granted they backed into the game as well as LSU but no way you can't say it wasn't expected. From day 1 they were supposed to be the team to beat along with LSU and USC.

Kansas and Missouri were flukes last season and they won't follow it up this season. Florida is better this season than last but they have the task of trying to beat Georgia...won't happen.

OSU's schedule isn't that great...USC will beat them and they will be lucky to take Michigan although that is a home game for them. Wisconsin and Illinois are away games. Everybody else is not much competition. I guess we can compare like teams when we play Troy on the 6th of Sept and OSU plays them on the 20th.

A man of integrity...

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/andy_staples/08/12/fla.wilson/index.html

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Urban Meyer used the phrase to sell his vision. Florida's players, Meyer said while speaking to the Gators Club in 2005 and 2006, would be "the top one percent of one percent," meaning they would be intelligent, athletically gifted young men with excellent character. When Meyer spoke the words, the old Gators cheered. The phrase even headlined page 1 of the 2006 Florida media guide.

Meyer hasn't uttered those words publicly in a while. That's probably appropriate, considering he has once again issued a practice jersey to Ronnie Wilson.

In April 2007 Wilson was a redshirt sophomore offensive guard from Pompano Beach, Fla., who seemed sure to win a starting job. Coaches loved his nasty streak. Then the nasty streak manifested itself off the field. Early on the morning of April 5, according to a Gainesville police report and Wilson's plea in court, the 6-foot-4, 315-pound Wilson punched and spat on an average-sized man named Frank Fuller at a nightclub steps from Florida Field. Fuller jumped in his car and followed Wilson, staying on the line with a 911 dispatcher so police would know where to find Wilson. About 20 minutes later, according to the report, Wilson's plea and a 911 call, both cars stopped in an empty parking lot. Wilson pulled an AK-47 from his trunk. As Fuller ducked beneath his steering wheel, Wilson pointed to the sky and fired.

Now, 16 months later, Wilson is back on the practice field as a walk-on defensive lineman. Top one percent of one percent indeed. Meyer's slogan made it sound as if his coaches recruit better human beings than their rivals. That isn't true. And those players certainly aren't held to a higher standard than Florida's opponents. Florida fans love to paint Florida State coach Bobby Bowden as a hapless warden whose "Criminoles" run amok in Tallahassee. Are Bowden -- who once joked that he was "praying for a misdemeanor" for former star receiver Peter Warrick -- and Meyer really that different? Bowden suspended receiver Preston Parker for two meaningless warm-up games despite an April incident in which police found Parker with a loaded .45 caliber pistol and marijuana in his car. What's the difference between Parker and Wilson? Parker didn't fire his weapon.

Florida is no different than FSU, Georgia, Penn State, Alabama, Iowa or any of the programs that have had their share of off-field transgressions. Some coaches give players second and third chances because it will help their teams win. Of course, Bama coach Nick Saban, as badly as he wants to win, likely never will allow linebacker Jimmy Johns back in his program. Johns was arrested in June and charged with dealing cocaine at least once in the parking lot of the Alabama football complex.

Like Johns, Wilson didn't make a simple mistake. He didn't only get caught with a bag of pot -- well, he did, but more on that later -- or get drunk and relieve himself on the sidewalk. He got so angry at another human being that he grabbed a gun and squeezed the trigger. The bullet had to land somewhere. Someone could have died. There are mistakes, and there are whoppers.

The punishment for whoppers should hurt more. To Wilson's credit, he performed his court-mandated community service and made progress toward a degree while suspended from UF. This progress convinced university officials to readmit Wilson. But Meyer didn't have to bring back Wilson just because he was a student again. Representing a university on its highest profile team is a privilege, not a right. Wilson forfeited that privilege when he squeezed the trigger.

If Wilson didn't forfeit his chance to play for the Gators then, he almost certainly did in January, when a Gainesville police dog sniffed something in Wilson's car. An officer removed six grams of marijuana, but Wilson got lucky. The state attorney's office didn't notice Wilson was on probation, so he wasn't immediately thrown in jail. Then, an assistant state attorney dropped the possession charge. A spokesman told The Miami Herald that "constructive possession" is difficult to prove, and the state attorney was under the impression that UF would handle the discipline. In and of itself, marijuana possession is a minor crime worthy of little more than a glorified parking ticket. But Wilson was on probation. Meyer knew all about that incident, too, and he allowed Wilson back on the team.

Wilson could have played football again, and Meyer could have helped him move on with his career. He could have called another school and vouched for Wilson. Meyer didn't have to undermine any progress he'd made at instilling discipline in his program, which had nine players arrested or cited with -- at least -- misdemeanor charges between winning the national title on Jan. 8, 2007, and last October. By bringing back Wilson, Meyer has sent a dangerous message to his players: break the law and you'll get a slap on the wrist. So why did Meyer risk his reputation on Wilson? "He's not back [in good standing]. I'm still evaluating," Meyer said. "I have a long history of giving guys opportunities who are [close] to graduation. A lot of thought went into it."

What a wonderful message this sends...

And yes this is intended to inflame those Gator fans.
