The Perfect 2.3L Tuneup

When ever the cars are running like crap or the plug wires look like crap is when I do it lol

On my 93' 2.3L, I just replace: plugs, plug wires, PVC valve, and clean air filter (K&N). The DIS stuff either works or it don't so I leave it alone. I do this usualy once a year or like I said before about if the car is running bad or not. Now you may want to change your fuel filter also if its been a while since the last change. Also if you got a A4LD its a good idea to change that every 50-60k miles. That is just what I do and not exactly what is recomended.
 
replace cap and rotor
replace wires
replace spark plugs
clean K&N air filter (or replace stock)
replace fuel filter
flush out radiator and cooling system
fuel injector cleaner
carb/TB cleaner down intake while running
change power steering fluid
new brake fluid and bleed
brakes front and rear (abuse that warranty on those pads! heh)
put new synchromesh in the T5 (or filter and fluid back when i had my a4ld)
change differential fluid along with friction modifier in my 8.8"
pull rotors and put new wheelbearings and pack with grease, new wheel seals
check air in tires
change oil and filter
check timing
replace timing belt (if needed)
replace serpentine belts (if needed)
check TPS sensor
run codes from ECU
check all light bulbs and make sure they're working properly
refill nitrous bottle (HEHE just got a 150 shot the other day. MUHUHAHA)
inspect D&D tubular kmember and control arms for cracks


just some of the things I do on a regular basis... most of it is cheap.. $10 parts here and there... keeps things working properly...)

Crap...do you do all that stuff on each tune up :D

haha no id be broke if i did that... but like the rotors and bearings get replaced like every 6 months, etc etc... its just habit... plus I work on my car so much that the stuff is just easier to replace than clean and reuse... heh. most of the stuff on there is just once in a while things... however if its your FIRST tuneup after sooooo many years, it wouldnt be a bad idea to just replace all that anyways... cuz after 10 years its BOUND to go bad... is it really worth it to get stranded somewhere or break other parts because you broke a wheel bearing race and tore up the spindle and then it messes up the rotor when you couldve just put some new ones in there for $10? nope. the squeaky wheel gets the grease, but why wait till it squeaks? heh.

Oic...but I'm sure she's not auto crossing in her car ;) Stuff like coolant and brake fluid is only changed like every two years. There is coolants like my Tahoe has that only requires changing every 6 years and I think the brake fluid is the same other than the typical fluid so who knows what she's got in there. If I'm not mistaken her car is a 91-93' 2.3L DP DIS which also reduces stuff on that list ( which cuts down on work). Now if you replace all that DIS stuff like the coil packs with the plugs etc, God it would cost like 200.00 bux to do a tune up :rolleyes:
 
I do plugs, wires, check air filter, change oil and filter, inspect timing belt and drive belts, if it has been longer than you can remember about the fuel filter probably good idea to do it too. Since i am always working on something i check tire pressure, fluid levels and brake wear constantly. always look for signs of something wrong like leaky wheel cylinders and leaky brake parts..

umm that is 50,000-60,000 miles. The avg driver puts 12,000-15,000 miles a year on there car so that would mean changing that filter about once every 3-4 years. The filter isn't to bad and you only have to replace about 4 qts of oil so its not to bad. I don't know about you guys/girls but I can't stand doing this job any more so I pay like 40.00-49.00 to have it done which isn't to bad every 3-4 years, heck some people don't even keep there cars that long ;)

Its funny....I knew what you meant with the filter change but I read it as change the entire a4ld every 50-60k miles. Which probably isnt a bad idea :rlaugh:
 
Mmmm I knew he meant filter as well :crazy: It was just funny. I like funny stuff. But probally replacing a A4LD wouldn't hurt every 50,000 KM :p .
On a serious note, YES its good to replace the filter. I heard great things from people who done that. and it actually gave a performance boost. :rolleyes:

:doh: Crap now I see :lol: Well changeing the A4LD every 50-60k isn't really a bad idea anyways, I'm sure the next filter changeing on my A4LD will envolve doing this ;)
 
Where's a good place to get Motorcraft wires for the DIS? I got generics last tuneup, and platinum plugs, and my car detonates like a mofo unless I run $2.20/gal premium. :notnice: Need to get some good Motorcraft stuff back in there and see if that cleans it up a little.

I've never had issues with the plats in my 93' 2.3L DIS but I wonder if swaping in a set of MotorCrafts would improve your car? What gap did you set your plats to anyways and which plats are you running? As for getting the tune-up parts if you can't get them at your local parts place you may be forced to buy from Ford :rolleyes: I found a place that sold a lot of A/C Delco stuff that carries MotorCraft and also would order stuff I needed that they didn't carry.
