So I've been having problems with the passenger side quarter window on my '88 GT convertible, and I've gotten tons of help here so far. Let's see if anyone can get me past the next step.

After learning how to remove the rear bench, getting to the motor itself was a breeze. Also, learning that the problem was actually the three nylon plugs that like to fall apart wasn't tricky, nor was finding replacement ones for them.

However, after a couple of weeks of having replaced the plugs, my window started having problems again -- naturally, I assumed that I didn't have everything properly lubed or something similarly stupid and went in to have another look. Unfortunately, the window gear itself has now disintegrated on me. The new plugs are still in great shape, but the gear is gone.

And here's the problem... apparently the quarter windows on an '88 convertible require a gear that accepts an extension shaft -- a shaft that goes into a circular fitting as opposed to a triangular one. The shaft I have is fine... the motor I have is fine... and the plugs I have are all fine, but the gear that connects everything together is in numerous pieces.

The standard window gear I can find -- those seem to be all over the place. However, the one that I'm looking for isn't as common. I can find new quarter window motors, but the one that I have still works fine. It's just the gear that I need to have replaced. I'd hate to spend $169.95 for a $20.00 nylon gear.

Is there anyone out there who knows where I can find a replacement gear for 1988 Mustang GT Convertible quarter window?

Thanks!

That they do, apparently. I'm still waiting to hear back from John's Mustangs, but it looks like $74.95 plus delivery might be the best I get away with here.

I'll give it some time, and unless anyone comes up with anything better than 50Resto, then it looks like the whole motor's coming out, dammit.
