i would still paint the hood, that is not going to detract from the car at all. as for the graphic you might consider having a vinyl decal made for it, it can always be removed later if you decide you don't like it. another option would be to do the car similar to the 07 cobra gt 500 paint scheme, but yellow with black instead of red with or you could do something like the terlingua racing team graphic, you already have a good start on that with the yellow paint. just a couple of thoughts. oh and if you wanted you could do a number graphic on the side of the car with the 65 in bold numbers and the sn in small letters either in front of the 65 or on top of it, but still with the vinyl decal. either way would be very sweet and the hood being black could nicely with either one.

Are you a little caught up in the whole American Chopper tribute thing where nothing stands on it's own merit and has to be dedicated to something, or are you lifelong fan of horse racing that has been relentlessly searching for some way to immortalize this particular horse for years?

I like the yellow, and the car is looking great!

You know, I just noticed something...one of the nice little things about building the car this way is having a spare tire well instead of wasting half the trunk carrying the spare.

I thought the small C-stripe SN65 graphic was tasteful. Better than some ghastly giant thing on the side. I do like the idea of using a decal instead of painting it on though -- this car has the potential to be in the public eye for a long time and tastes change. It would be nice to be able to be "timeless" and adaptable. That's why I'm going with traditional Shelby bodywork on the '67 vert instead of doing an Eleanor that'll be totally outdated in 10 years.

The "Man O' War" thing is totally lost on me though. IMO, the only reason to do something like that is if the people that own the rights to it are paying you $150k or something (see OCC reference above).

I like the yellow, and the car is looking great!

There's already a statue and a road and several things of the like named Man O' War in Lexington, Ky, even a Ford dealership.

I think the idea for the graphic is tasteful and attractive, and would look nice on the fender of your unique Stang. I am not sold on the "Man O War" tie in, but it is not my car. Do what you want, you have displayed excellent taste and judgement on everything with this car, so I'm sure you will make it look nice either way. Like I said earlier I'm not crazy about the horse plaque idea, but this car would still look awesome with a whole horse trailer hitched to the back bumper. Use your own judgement, it has served you very well so far.

I still like the idea of just putting black '65 Mustang GT rocker stripes on it but with the SN65 GT looking badges that whomever did such a great job in creating that are now lost forever due to the crash.

I love the yellow though, I agree that it may be enough of a statement in itself.

What I mean by that statement is that a plaque in the trunk does not change the look, attitude, or appeal of the car, nor would a horse trailer for that matter.

As far as the Miller welder bike that was a little odd, but if some company gave me $150,000 for a bike I would tie anything they wanted to the back of the bike. I am not taking away from the OCC guys, I love their attitudes and admire their fabrication skills, it's just some of their designs don't do anything for me.

It makes it kinda rough to do doughnuts in a parking lot if you have a horser trailer hooked up to the car. hehe

sn65 you must not let your car be decorated by a committee.......there is not a car in the world that everyone likes so the lesson is DO YOUR OWN THING!

Having conceived and constructed this remarkable project, you have to follow thru and decide how it is to be finished PERSONALLY.

This is YOUR car, noone else's, and you can be damm proud of it irrespective of the colour and graphics YOU believe look best.

If someone does not like the final product, chances are you would not like what he did to his car either.

I wouldn't have chosen yellow for the car, but I do like the stripe graphic idea. It's only paint! Do what you want. If you decide you hate it later, fix it.

The Man of War thing I don't get either. Now that the others have mentioned American Chopper, I agree. Don't make a "theme car". What you have done stands on its own merit.

Hi All,

I would have posted these photos earlier, but yesterday, my computer took a dump. :-(

We received the powder coated suspension components and had to send them back. There was some confusion over the color we wanted and the coater color-matched the wrong components. We should have those items back by Monday. :-(

In the mean time, I have been plugging along, assembling the items in the engine bay while Wayne has been working on mounting the rear wheel flares.

We are going to have to modify the wiring harness, in a couple of places, in order to reach some of the components. Relocating the shock towers 7" forward has altered the way the harness fits, but fortunate for us, we only have to change things like the length of the lead going to the WW pump, etc...

As far as the mechanical systems, we are going to have to come up with a way to support the intercooler radiator and re-route the front break lines. Other than that, everything has been bolting right up.

Please speak up if you see something that does not look quite right. There is so much going on right now that I am afraid I might make a mistake in assembly. It is easier to correct these things now than to wait until it is done and have to fix them then. Thanks for your help.

Hi All,

Making a little more progress. Mounted more items in the engine bay and mounted the rear drivers side fender flare. For those who wish to know, we used "Duramix 4040" to bond the FRP fender flare to the steel quarter panel. 4040 is a specialty adhesive used for both structural and cosmetic repairs.

Today we start assembling the front and rear suspensions. If everything goes as planned, we should be ready to mount the engine and trans by mid week.
