When replacing the thermostat how do you keep the thermostat from falling down off the housing inset while you are screwing it in? I keep getting leaks.

I got a gasket that is sticky on one side. Holds the stat in the housing then installs as an assembled unit.

I usually use a little bit of RTV on each side of the gasket... No leaks yet...

colder engine = more power

hotter engine = less emissions

I JUST did this, and used RTV. Worked perfect.

I use a 180 degree thermostat because i have an underdriven water pump pulley and want to stay on top of cooling issues.

DON'T over-torque the t-stat housing. I did that and cracked a corner of it off. Nothing like aluminum that has been heat cycled thousands of times over a period of years. If you do happen to crack the t-stat housing (fairly common) go to NAPA, its 8.83 and cast steel instead of crappy cast aluminum like the stocker.

good luck, Adam
