Okies I got a 92 mustang 2.3L convertable, Strange things are happening and I'm totally confused my car get's ****ty gas milage unless I'm hyper vigilant about my foot, however the good gas mileage came right after I used two bottles of fuel injector treatment in a row, now it's down again but now I really doubt it's actually the injectors because of an other symptom, sometimes my car starts and goes right back out, at first I thought that was the relay switch but it was too intermittant and well the thing was dangling so we duct-taped the sucker.
Mind you after a few start attempts the car usually will start, and once it pushes itself past 1500 rpm (during the start phase) it seems to be fine. when it goes out it usually can't breach the 1k coughs at 500 rpm and rattles the whole car and the goes out. Here's the big Factor I just think I correlated to this happening, this usually happens when I have less than a quarter tank of gas left (the last few times I was almost at E and the problem disappeared when I put gas in the tank.
So unless you guys think it's something else I'm thinking the fuel filter is clogged up and when I try to start it the few times of priming it is what gets my car going again and the more gas is in the tank the easier the fuelpump can work against that clogged filter. Of course it could be the fuel pump or someting worse in which case I'm in deep ***** cause I'm broke.
Here's my big problem though my last mustang was a 86 2.3 with a carter YFA which has the fuel filter right smack dab on the dam thing pinch the rubber hose screw the dam new one on presto your done! (easy right )
this 92 with fuel injection is another world though
A. dun have a clue where that dam fuel filter is
B. dun know what I have to do to replace it!
C. can anyone tell me how or what else it could be?

Put the rear on jackstands under the axle. Slide under the gas tank, just past the gas tank under the car is the fuel filter tucked up to the floor pan. In other words it is in front of the gas tank, directly below the rear seat underneath the car.

There are probably correct ways to do this, but I usually just let the car sit for a while, say overnight, to reduce the pressure buildup. The fuel filter has 2 clips, one on each side of the filter. Just pull the clips outward and that will free the filter from the fuel lines. There will be minimal fuel leakage at this point, so don't get it in your eyes. Then just put the new one in and new clips that come with filter. Be sure to install filter in same flow direction as the one your replacing, there is an in flow and out flow.

Don't know it this is the answer to your problem, but it won't hurt to change it and it is pretty cheap to try.
