Thinking Of Moving To New Hampshire. Anyone From There?

In my career field, there are very few options on where you want to live. Of those available, I'm considering moving to New Hampshire. JetBlue has a Boston base that is growing, and it is junior. My current employer isn't going anywhere growth wise. I've kind of decided I could deal with living up that way if I commuted from New Hampshire, and the wife is actually ok with it, which is surprising. I also realized that if I lived near the coastal area, New England Dragway is less than 15 miles away, which is a huge plus. Does anyone live up that way? How's the car scene out there?

No taxes... I'm in RI and have been there 2 times this summer. (Was there last weekend) The state is ran pretty well compared to many others. No seatbelt or Mandatory insurance requirements. I kinda want to move there myself.

Im in Maine, was just at New England dragway today. The NH area is very nice. Another bonus is that NHRA is coming to New England Drag way next summer

Hopefully you both like the cold cause its something to consider, especially coming from where you been living. Need to like Winter activities up this way. I'm kinda in the seacoast area and like being 40 min's from a nice beach or from the mountains...N.H. is pretty sweet that way. You gotta like the seasons up this way....summers are short compared to your area. Fishing and hunting are big up this way as well.
I live about a 25 min ride to NED... if your into Nascar we have a track as well... for bikes we have Laconia bike week, also have a track for bikes. There are plenty of local car clubs around and a fair share of shows as well.

You also have Manchester & Pease airports that have carriers as far as jobs are concerned?

There is no sales tax in NH but you pay more in property tax. In general houses in the north east are more expensive as compared to the rest of the country. Like Andy said if you have not lived in a cold snowy environment before it will be a huge system shock. Storms that dump 12-18" of snow are not uncommon.

Snow is great...I've become skilled enough to do 45-50 down a highway in a blizzard in a RWD car. You can take at least 2 points out of a 3 point turn.

Oh and property taxes there are still cheaper than Providence, RI Who taxes almost $30 per thousand and still wants to charge you $100 a year per car to park in front of your own house overnight. lol

The cold weather is something I will get over, but I don't think the wife will care for it much. I can't stand the heat. I'm absolutely sick of it to be honest with you. It offends the Norwegian in me. Glad to hear that it's not that isolated of a place. Unfortunately there are no crew bases in Manchester. I would only have to drive down to Boston once or twice a week. To be honest with you, I currently live in the Suburbs of Atlanta, which is 46 miles from the Airport. Hampton, NH is only 40 miles from Logan, so it's actually a reduction in commuting distance for me.

Yowza.... looking for a place in Hampton is gonna be top dollar for sure if thats were you looked. Hampton beach is a prime spot around here. Look at some towns skirting that and the prices will drop. I have family in Chandler and Sierra Vista AZ and they get sick of the heat and sun as well. Some would love to come back this way, my Sister is like, it ain't happening.

Yeah. What's a cheap town around there? I guess that's what I need to know. I'm trying to get reasonable rental costs. I've already determined that if I ever own a home again, I'm going to build it. Especially if I live up North.

a 50 mile radius from Logan puts you around Hampton, Portsmouth, Nashua, Manchester, Seabrook, Salem. Those are all good size towns. Hampton would most likely be $$$ as its kinda a resort town. Anything along the coast will be $$$ But there plenty of rental stuff all around due to the ecomony.
I'd Google earth an you can see plenty of smaller towns between all these.... That would put you close to a town in a 10 min drive but living in the rural some where the prices will be cheaper. I would think you could score a house rental 1000 - 1500 easy.

I'm about 20 m.ns North of Portsmouth...You need a place to turn wrenchs your welcome to my garage anytime....

Thanks for the solid advice. I'll look around a little more. I didn't take the coastal resort factor into consideration. This may be years down the line for me. I'm trying to make a one time career decision, so that's why I am asking now.

anything close to the ocean/water will skyrocket your price. All of those area's mentioned are nice places Ive been to pretty much all of them. Portsmouth is a really nice area, it is also where the Pease International airport is. There are lots of good towns between NH and boston, Id find something in your price range that is also a decent commute. Pretty much anything in that area of NH is a nice area, its not until you get into northern NH until things get kinda sketchy. There is not a lack of things to do in NH either car related or not. Epping NH is a good 1/4 drag strip, Louden Raceeway holds lots of events other then just Nascar, there are auto X clubs in NH. Lots of resort area's through out the state, North Conway is a big tourist area, there is also the Mt Washington Auto Road which is a really fun drive and takes you to the top of Mt Washington. Only down time around this area is the winter if you dont like winter sports but skiing and snowmobiling is huge in this area but I'm more of a April to November type person. Stays warm here up until late oct, the days are warm but over nights are colder. Snow can fly anywhere from late Oct through April
