Hey I just got my 3.73s installed, but I can't really try em out. I ripped my pass. side motor mount completely off and my drivers is pretty beat. So anyways, I ordered some solid ones off of Summit and just today someone told me that I made a big mistake doing that. He said the vibration is going to piss the hell out of me. I find that hard to believe, but I really have no experience with them
Anyone out there have them? Are they really that bad?

Is the car a daily driver? The vibrations are going to be worse, of course, but how bad it will bother you is your decision. All that rubber/prothane in motor mounts helps absorb and filter out most of those unwanted vibrations. I guarantee you will notice a difference between the solid mounts and the stock one.

If it were me, I wouldn't put solid mounts on a daily driver. Just me though...

Yeah, it's a daily driver. I can deal with a little vibration, but I don't want it shaking all around. Also.. is it going to put any extra stress on anything in my engine bay?

Thanks man,

Brandon

I guess there is a reason why people don't put solid mounts on daily drivers.

You will definitely notice the difference in the vibration level. I'm not saying it is going to vibrate you out of the seat, but it won't put you to sleep either. The engine won't have any buffer zone between it and the k-member, so when you hit bumps and stuff, I would imagine it will take its toll over time. Good luck!

Guess I'll just have to dodge all the pot holes, lol. It's kind of fun sometimes. Anyone with them on their car, feel free to chime in

i have them i my daily driver, they shake a lil and look sick when you rev it up and the whole car tips back and forth, lots of fun. until my engine blew up last week, but anyway they arent that bad but idling youll really see the mirrors and stuff shake around alot, but it adds to the feel of power imo and they feel sick when you do a hard launch

Simple solution for all vibration issues....

find the adjuster on the throttle arm and dial in your idle to 1000 rpms. No more vibration. Vibration only happens at low rpms.

No one has mentioned it yet, but DON'T put solid engine mounts AND a solid tranny mount in the car.

Solid engine mounts and a good (or the stock) tranny mount will be fine. If you run a solid tranny mount, you will crack your bellhousing. The car will flex and if the tranny is solid mounted, it'll twist until something someplace breaks or cracks. Usually it's the bellhousing.

I've thought about them for my convertible.

Stupid question but polyurethane does not count as solid right? I'm running poly everything. Not a single piece of factory rubber _anywhere_ in the car.

Poly isn't solid. You're fine.

I have them on my red car right now -- no complaints. You feel a little more, but it won't rattle your teeth out or anything. I can still use my mirrors and I don't go numb from vibrations. Unless I told you, you might not even notice.

I've had solid motor and transmission mounts on my car for about 5 months and I have no complaints. I like the way my car rocks at idle.

I have my engine out right now and I'm debating switching my mounts to Energy Suspension Polyurethane mounts. I was wondering if they make a big difference....I also heard that they lower the engine a bit....if so, how much do they lower it?

I have the moroso solid mounts for the motor and a stock mount for the tranny and i love the motor mounts, like tjm73 said you never want to use solid tranny mount with solid motor mounts, my brother just learned that lesson.

The urethane makes no noticable difference in idle shaking. Go for it. You wont even notice.

I had the Moroso solid mounts in my Nova for several years. I had the motor out a couple of times for various reasons and each time I discovered that the mount was "ripped". It actually looked like the metal was tearing. I wont be using them agian when the motot goes back in. They did addd alot of vibration but thats a big block with a nasty solid cam too.

On my stangs, I use the "convertible" mounts. They are still rubber but cant come apart like the regular ones because the rubber part is kind on encased.

I went from torn stocker to E.S. Poly mounts and I could feel the motor more, but nothing obnoxious. I want to go solid now, because obnoxious is what I am aiming for. I'll sell my poly's for $50 shipped OBO so I can afford the solids.

This is a great topic. I wish I had more knowledge in this area. I have close to the same question. I've been debating for awhile whether or not to go with the convertible mounts. I read a thread a while back (about a month ago) that said they where the same as the original, just stronger. As this is my dialy driver I will absolutely not be going with Solid Mounts, to me the change in ride quality would just not be worth it. Plus it probably adds what? maybe .2 of a second to 1/4 mile time. Great for a comp car.
Anyways about the convertible mounts. I'm assumming there is a compromise to everything. When I bought my mounts I noticed the convertible mounts for around $10-20 more for the set. They will be going in either this week or next. What is the disadvantages of the convertible mounts? I know they are stronger, Is this due to a different compuound of rubber or are they a stiffer mount (hardened rubber). If I lose any ride quality at all, I would assume stay with the hard top mount. However if they are both the same I will deffeintly be changing.

I was going to wait till I had the project complete and the site cleaned up to post link, but here it is.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/829765 This is about 2 weeks old, so I have made much progress since these pics. (engine assembled minus a few bolts, vehicle ready to roll-just need to install, etc)
