What does the TOB sound like when it's going out? I've been hearing this squeaking sound everytime I shift hard. I thought it was the belt, but it seems to be fine, and I don't think it's adjustable anyway. Is it my TOB?

I have the same sound...probably a pulley. The TOB usually makes noise at idle and changes or goes away when the clutch is disengaged. When it gets really bad it screams like a banshee.

Ok thanks guys. I guess it's no big deal. It's been doing it for a while now and hasn't gotten any worse. Some ricers have asked me if it's a BOV

Not to thread hijack, but if I were to replace my clutch should I just use the TOB the kit supplies or is there a FRPP part that wont squeak?

From what I hear the best one to use would be an OEM one.

it depends on who the manufacturer is....if it's spec just use theirs. they supply a ford one

but anyone else, go to ford & get one. if you don't you'll be pulling it out in the future & replacing it with another one

i replaced mine with the centerforce one cause i didn't know any beter at the time. i just got done putting the tranny back in from changing that out a few days ago

yeah the dude who had my car before me put in a "racing clutch" (no idea what kind..it was retarded anyway) and that TOB whisteled like a mofo. I took it to ford and had them do a full replacement and the TOB has been quiet for 2 years now

Ford must have changed who they got theirs from them. Mine was replaced under warranty twice within 35k miles. I put in the Spec TOB (not a Ford item at that time) and it has been great for 70k.

I wouldnt sweat throw out bearing design or manufacturer. Its generally all the same, made by the same manufacturer just with a different company stamp on it or whatever. Just replace it if you pull the tranny out. i forgot to change mine with my tranny out, and it came apart into 2 pieces one day, and now i have to get a new clutch as well. as far as the noise. mine didnt squeak at all...it just clicked...went away with the clutch pedal pressed, came back with the pedal not pressed. and the clicking went away at higher RPMs, except when it got worse, the clicking just became a constant noise that blended in with the engine noise.

Both my Mach 1 & my old 97 Cobra had that same noise from the tob. Not that loud, but very annoying. I have heard it is a very common problem with Mustangs. I just learned to live with it.

wait a second, a squealing sound wiht the clutch is NOT pressed in is the throwout bearing?

is there another bearing that needs to be replaced if it makes a different squeakiing sound when the clutch is pressed in? (98 t45 tranny)
