When I shut down my car after driving my commute. I hear a noticeable thud comming from the rear of the car. I was thinking it could be my exhaust system or something like that. What do you guy think it is.

Thanks.

^ .... +1

Only time I've ever heard a thud which was more like a thump was with my Ranger. It would thump a few times after I shut it off but not all the time. It was my ABS trying to engage because of a faulty sensor.

That is a shot in the dark but it's the only thump type noise I've ever heard after shutting the vehicle off.

Its really weird I get a thud exactly half a second after the engine stops making noise. Its like something settled.

Haha, yeah that's the other thud. I was starting to get worried. But I think its the fuel system getting settled. Its not a slosh though. Any chance it could be the motor moving. Maybe getting settled and the motor mounts are bad?

Any chance the motor mounts are what makes the thud. Maybe the whole thing rocks back once the engine stops moving.

Check on your control arms; namely the uppers. My mom's V6 stang would do the same thing, and it was one of her upper control arms. I don't know what it had to do with shutting the car off, but that's where the noise was coming from. Check on all of your exhaust hangers to see if any of them are too stretched out or worn. The exhaust on my 01 came real close to the frame rails right over the axle, and would occasionally rub there.
