Well when i accel usually from 2000 to 3000 rpms i hear a ticking or rattling sound from the engine bay that i dont hear at any other times. I know i have a bad header leak on the passenger side but is it possible that i only hear it in the car under the cirumstances mentioned above?

Sounds like pinging to me... you can pretty much rule out an exhaust leak by putting it in 4th and flooring it around 1500-2000rpm. If your sound doesn't get WAY louder than you should be looking for something else. What mods are done to your car, you could be leaning out in that rpm range. Mine used to do the same thing before I got an AFPR and upped my fuel pressure a bit. What's your timing set at? Octane?

Header leaks can be quite tricky. Depending on how hot the headers are and such. You are going to have to fix the header leak eventually anyway so might as well start out with that so you can rule it out.

600 cfm edelbrock carb. performer intake, e7 heads that might be ported, full exhaust. Elec fuel pump (ex cfi car) regulated to 6.5 psi. Timing was at 14 but i dropped it to 10 with little to no diff. After fixing the header should i try premium? i ususally run mid right now.
