So I just had a new motor built for my car...long story short the other night I was sitting at a red light (motor just rolled first 100km) and I start to hear a ticking coming from the passenger side. It gets louder and louder so I gotta pull over. Its coming from the engine on the passenger side. I had to get the car towed home because it was getting really loud. What can this be? It gets towed to the shop that built the motor tomorrow but Im kinda confused. Oil pressure, oil level and water temp are still all good. Could it be a lifter seized already? Or what about the rockers. The motor has a TFS stage 1 cam with new valve springs.

shouldnt the valves have been adjusted already when the engine was built? if they are stud mounted roller rockers your pretty much supposed to set it and forget it? but i suppose anything possible

Could be either an exhaust leak, or something in the valvetrain loosened up.

A blown exhaust gasket between the head and header can sound like a mechanical ticking, I've been fooled by those exhaust leaks a couple times.

Good call to get it towed, you don't want to take chances with that new engine.

How stiff are the valve springs? If these are the puny 5/16" stock rocker bolts,I doubt they can take a lot of spring pressure.

If one broke, others may break as well.

They are just stock replacement valve springs
