Ticking Noise

My car has been making a ticking noise for a while. I thought it was the lifters but it sounds like its louder underneath the car near the cats. I'm gonna try to listen today with my stethoscope to make sure its not from the ngine. The car runs great, the ticking is just annoying. Has anyone else had this problem, and do I need new cats?

Transmission?

I have a nearly identical problem on my 94. I recall reading a TSB some time ago about a possible tranny fluid issue where if you had the inocorrect fluid, a strange noise could occur from the tranny (and of course damage can/will occur). I am pretty confident that this issue is not engine related, particularly because of where the sound comes from. A stethescope isn't a bad idea though. Have you changed your tranny fluid at all lately?

If anyone knows about the TSB I am talking about, please post more details.

Hmm...I didn't think of the tranny. Was this TSB for auto, manual or both types of transmission? I have a manual and I did change the fluid about 15k miles ago. I changed it to full synthetic, I think it was Mobil 1 Transmission fluid that I used. The only thing is that the noise is always there whether the car is in neutral or in gear which to me seems like its not the tranny. I'll have to listen closer to the tranny to see.
