its not really doing anything but this motor was boosted (15psi) by the last owner and its an 89 with alot of miles on it. i just was wondering if there is anyway to tell if im getting close to having some problems. so id like to prevent that if possible.

first thing i would do then is run a compression test and see if all cyl. are reading close to the same psi. if thise are all holding steady..then go from there

Compression tests, leakdown tests, check for oil consumption and smoke, and bearing noise, especially when at full operating temp. if all these check out, you are OK at least for now. I'd be reluctant to do anything real crazy like boost or nitrous on a motor with a lot of miles on it but running it hard N/A it should hold up. These are tough little motors

When it smokes to high heaven and the oil is staying in the heads and not draining back down I'd say you need it.
