Paid $2.73 for 87 this morning to fill the GT, and that was one of the cheaper places nearby. Chevron wants $2.85 for 87.

EDIT: The II is now officially a weekend / gig car. No more commuting in a dual-quad 5.0 (24 miles each way.) Figures I'd get it up and running the week that gas jumps $.40 per gallon.

87 ranges from $2.47-$2.57/gal, each grade higher adds about $.10/gal

Little station we sometimes buy at was $2.13 on 06 Aug, 2.33 on 13 Aug, and 2.47 on 16 Aug.

In Canada you can buy 3 grades of gas at most gas stations. 87 / 89 / 91 / . A few stations offer 93 and one large and popular chain called Sunoco has 94 on tap.
So a 15 gallon cell full of the good stuff + 10 pounds worth of nitrous are going to cost me.....about what I paid for my Mazda

I find it far less depressing to watch the gallons and not the cost, hand them my debit card, and read about it later in my statement.

Funny when people discuss the increase in the price of a barrel of oil they seem to focus on the price of gasoline. Makes me think if gas dropped to $1/42.9 they would see everything as being peachy keen.

Even if the vehicles used to transport goods (probably from China and India) to the place you purchase new stuff are running on cheap fuel, those goods use oil to be produced. The oil used in production could be as miniscule as the lubrication needed to keep a machine running smoothly, to generating the power to operate the machinery, to oil used as the raw material.

So while I see the price ao fuel creep upwards of $2.50 a gallon I keep in mind it's just an indicator of worse things to come.

This isn't the appropriate forum to discuss or speculate on the true nature of hte increase in the cost of a barrell of oil. I will state that blaming only the 'terrorists' is an awfully simplistic, and convient, position. And that's the last I'll say about it here. You have my word.

Being in the trucking industry, I get a good idea of things to come, and I'd suggest doing your Christmas shopping early this year. Supposedly, the truckers(at least the ones who are able to stay in business) are going to do a nationwide strike because of fuel costs right around the Holiday season. If that happens, stores will be low on all stock, including food. Prepare, just in case.

I agree with Wart. He has some good points. Plastic is produced with oil (also coal and natural gas) and what doesn't have plastic in it these days? The cost of fuel will trickle down into more than just our gas budget.

How would bombing the terrorists help? Besides I'm doubtful we'd actually hit them given the lackluster performance of our intelligence these days. Producing more fuel efficient products would go a long way towards reducing the price of gas in this country. However with politicians being owned by big business, don't expect that to come about anytime soon.

Well, Excursions and Expeditions used to haul the Brat to Soccer and F450s with the biggest load they'll ever carry being groceries aren't helping. I love (not) that pristine Chevy Duelie with nothing in the bed but pulling a trailer massively overloaded with two sheets of plywood and a 2x4.

We could do a whole discussion on a consumer movement.

Well at the service station where I work, 87 is only 2.29/ but everything else is WAY up there! our 110 octane is over a dollar cheaper than our 100 and even cheaper than 95! But it is leaded...

and you thought 74 was bad!!!! I really get disgusted with the news hype. When you boil it all down, it still goes back th OPEC. They will and have gouge at every excuse. They can't eat sand!! Yes we consume a majority of the worlds' oil. We are the most industrialized nation period. We also have the resources to do it, other countries lack most raw materials. The truth that politicians on both sides reap the benefits of price gouging. And yes the allmighty stockholders. The really twisted fact is that gas a hundred miles from the refinery is cheaper than down the street, and it was trucked there! Sure it hurts at the pump, but I'll be damned if I give up my car just because of hype.

Hey- I'm gonna keep driving my 460 powered shortwide Ford and it's 7mpg no matter what. Frankly I don't give a damn if it reaches 5 bucks a gallon, I'll still drive it just despite. I'm not a slave to any of these stupid new car payments and never will be. I even drove my Tunnel rammed II to work the last couple weeks. It costs me $63 a tank (10 gallons only) which is 1/2 92 octane and 1/2 110 octane. When i drove it to work Mel stopped me and asked if i was making a statement driving this super gas hog to work everyday, I told him not really, just enjoying my car. I guess the understatement is yeah, I don't give a damn, I'm driveing what I want to drive! And I'm betting that even with 2 carbs, it still got a better Mpg than the 460! I do only live about 5-6 miles from work, and i more or less planned it like that. I drive the 460 truck over to Portland all the time and make several trekks across town all the time durring the weekends. That trip to Portland has been known to eat a 1/4 of the tank just round trip across the Columbia River! Do i like shelling out the extra money? Of course not. Will the fuel price gouging sway me in any way, hell no. I'm not gonna let the government inadverntaly decide what's best for me, that's my job...

It's just sad cause there are people out that that are on a tight budget, especailly those who have driving on the road as part of their career. But aslong as this country keeps depending on fuel/crude importing, we're gonna have these problems. There's many time over proven untapped resources right here in the good ol' US of A, and i have other sources that are related to private oil wells that say they re getting subsidized by the federal govt. to cap wells and run at minium production. So you tell me WHO's friggen hands are deep in the cookie jar.....
