Time to replace PCV?

I have 65k miles on my car currently, and noticed recently that there is a little bit of oil pooling up where the PCV Valve is. I am going to replace the valve on Saturday, but want to get some opinions to see if that is all I should do. Also how do I remove it? I tried to twist, pull, etc, but it didn't seem to want to come out.

Remove your air tube for more room to work.. from previous threads I just checked, looks like the 02 is the twist in type. Be sure to use a Motorcraft replacement, not a POS parts store one.

Motorcraft's site says EV261 if you have twist in style PCV valve, or EV253 if not.

Thanks for the reply....I'll just keep trying to twist it out. I'll make sure to get the Motorcraft part. Does replacing the PCV Valve sound like what I need to do then to fix that pooling of oil problem? Its not alot of oil, but its enough to make me worry abit.

If its stuck shut, it is your problem. Once you get it off, shake it and see if it rattles.

Even if it's not the PCV, it wouldn't hurt to replace it....

Yeah, it is not expensive just replace it...

Don't trust that shake method.. PCV's are so cheap and easy to replace that you may as well just replace it every other oil change or every few oil changes.. should help your oil pooling problem.

I had this same problem on my 02. I had to replace the stock hose that connects to the pcv going to the throttle body.

I just put on a new tb & plenum this weekend & found a coating of oil on the insides of the old plenum. Guess I'm changing mine, too!

Changing your PCV valve won't cure that. The PCV allows air (with oil in it) from the crankcase to be circulated back to the intake plenum.. You need to make an air/oil separator that sits within the hose leading from the crankcase to the plenum. The separator will help to filter the oil out before it returns to the plenum.

It's located on the passenger side cam cover right in the middle, underneath your air intake tube. It should be a little plastic thingy with a hose coming out from it.

Mine was about $25 and I had to eat a can of spinach to get that sucker off. Look at the new one real good to see what you're dealing with and then get a big breath and picture it coming off. It will.

Why would Ford make it like that? Why wouldn't they filter out the oil before it goes into the plenum?

Ditto. After about a year, the NEW hose started to collapse. It seems the oil and heat softened it. My solution was to get a plumbing fitting about 3/8" in diameter from home depot. I jammed it inside of the hose to keep it from collapsing.

Time to replace PCV?
