i just r3ecently put a steeda timing adjuster in my car
it wsa the worst mod i ever did dont ever use this just get a chip
ime trying to take it off but i lost my crank bolt does ne1 know where i can get a new one

I may be wrong but I believe that due to the type of bolt, you should replace with a new bolt on installation. If your Cobra has a knock sensor I can see how it may be aggrevating. I had a steeda one on my 99 GT and loved it. 91 octane and 15* (Very user friendly at the track, or if you get a bad batch of gas!)

Ive helped install 2 of them on friends cars and they worked perfectly. Sounds like user error to me....

For the money, they are useless unless you need to change your timing often, especially on a car already setup for premium fuel.

GTs can benefit by bumping the timing to use higher octane gas, but a chip is a smarter ($$$) choice for either car.

In your case though...what were you looking for from the adjuster???

Why would a chip be better for adjusting timing.....it's not adjustable then. You bump it and you're stuck. If you live anywhere with differing climates, then you would want to go higher in the colder months and a little lower in the summer....my .02

I also had problems. Even at stock timing setting it would ping like a MOFO! It was not user error, You cant put one on wrong if you try. The way I see it is, if the car starts you installed it correctly!.

it was freezing out and i couldnt wait to do the install myself so i had a local shop do it

at first i had the timming advanced to 14 degrees
i thought it seemed alot smother at idol
it deffinatly was alot faster and the torque curve came with a smoother delivery all the way up to the max hp spot ( it did make my car alot faster )
but on the highway just cruising at 3000 rpms in fourth
(my check engine light is always on) my check engine light would blink off on off on etc.
and my car would feel like my traction controll was triggered
ide play with the pedal for a few seconds and it would even out
but overall it feels like its killing my engine

so i turned my timming back to 11 degrees and my car feels slower than 14
but i still have the fourth gear engine bogg it just doesnt take as long for me to even it out with the gas pedal

is their anything i should try before taking it off

ime gona go to ford today and get a new bolt
thanks fellas

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that if it pings at 10 degrees and all you did was the install.

I was under the assumption that they are a great bang for the buck. I run 93 octane gas always, so even in Florida I don't think i'd have to worry about pinging. I am hoping to pick up a big Seat of the Pants feeling difference with this combined with some steeda pullies. My Cobra needs a good extra dose of cheap HP.

I never thought of that, very good point. I was about to say the chip was a much better deal.

You could always get a two-tune flip chip burned. One setting for colder months and one for warmer months. This would be able to adjust much more than a T/A, but is also much more expensive.

Money issue I suppose :nice:

READ: ...unless you need to change your timing often.

If you're driving your Cobra in the winter months and need to change it back, a good tuner will reflash for free or cheap ($30-$50).

I had my GT chip flashed for a gear swap, timing set for 93-94 octane (which ran great all year...the computer compensates off of the BASE timing), fan turn on speeds altered, trans shift points altered and firmed, fuel pressure adjusted and the O2 monitors turned off for $275 by Lidio at Alternative Auto.

Getting an owner programmable chip is the other route.
