Timing and air fuel ratio

I have some questions about the base timing. I have h/c/i with gt 40 intake stock block and nothing crazy. My base timing seems to run good at 18 btdc. I have been running this for awhile and have had no problems. I have even sprayed 125 shot with no issues YET. I am going for dyno runs tom and was wondering if anyone runs this high of timing?? Second question is what should I be looking for in a/f ratios?? Stupid questions but looking for some input.

18 degrees and 125shot WTF ???? not cool unless you wanna blow it up , im surprised that you have not popped any head gaskets

How can you say that without knowing what the cam profile is, whether the cam was advanced or retarded, and what the timing of the valve events are?

because 99 percent of the guys here are running fairly stock setups with the cams straight up ........and if he has compensated for the added timing elsewhere I would have hoped he would have been smart enough to add that in to the question ......not stepping on toes... but for the majority of guys 18 degrees and 125shot is way too aggressive unless hes running alot of octane ....

I ran 18* initial with my trickflow headed 302. I now run 34* total with my PMS but I tune with an anderson pms. Its 34* total from 4000 +. 11:1 compression and pump gas.

I agree that the timing is up there but it doesnt ping and it runs like crap without the timing up high. It seems to be not the norm but it is what it is. I am assuming that the heads are what is saving the motor from its end. The reason I am asking is because the dyno operator has told me that he has run alot of timing with my similar setup and was comfortable with what I am running as base timing. I had set the timing before and thought it was 14btdc. It must have either been my mistake or the distrubtor has moved. As a side note I am running a cam similar to the E cam with more duration on the exhaust if I can remember. I run 1 step colder plugs and have sprayed the motor at least 8 times at the track. I am going to find out how close these items are to ending the motor tom. Ill post some numbers when I get back.
Anyone on the A/F numbers?
