Timing chain, how slack is too slack?

I had to replace my mechanical fuel pump on my 85 gt today, and I seen the timing chain in there, so I decided to see how slack it was, and i was quite slack, I could push it inward ( towards the passenger side fender) about a half an inch or so, Anyone know the tolerences on these engines for the timing chains? Im sure they are all the same?

thanks alot rick, but just was able to feel one side, I have an 85 gt so it has a mechanical fuel pump, and I had to change that today cause it was leaking oil out of the vent hole, I just put my finger in there and it was quite loose, It was put in brand new 100,000km's ago when I rebuilt my engine back in the winter of 2000, thanks alot
