Timing Problems

Seems like everytime I try to advance my timing (12-16*), my car starts surging like crazy. Right now my timing is set at 10* and the car feels alright, but I want a bit more of a kick to it. I do take the spout out when I check the timing and do everything right. Once I put the spout back in, and put the car in Drive(AOD), car starts surging and dies on me. Any suggestions as to what is happening?

Is the idle raising appreciably from the timing advance? The puter might be trying to knock the idle back down to spec (causing a surge) if so.

Good luck.

advancing your timimg should raise your overall idle. what does it go to after you bump the timing? maybe after bumping the timing, you should lower your idle a little bit, turning the screw( next to the throttle linkage on the throttle body) counter clock wise. dont forget to disconnect the IAC before you set the idle. also, dont forget to reset your tps sensor if you go that route. should help out some. give it a try. good luck
