I'm thinking about tinting my windows police magnet however I’ve never seen a newer mustang with only the rears tinted, how do you think it would look? Do you have any suggestions? Does anyone have any pictures of one?

Thanks,

Matt

There are good reasons for laws regarding tints. A good friend of mine was a police officer. He made a stop and was shot and killed by the driver. That was several years ago and no arrest has ever been made.
Would you like to approach a strange car if you couldn't see the driver because of the tint???

Gimme a break, I wonder how Amadou Diallo (September 2, 1975 – February 4, 1999) felt when he had officers empty their clips into him as he reached for his ID in NY. Tint does not represent a danger to police in any way, God forbid they pull over a lifted truck or 18 wheeler, yikes.

In MI we can only have tint on windows behind the front 3 (Windshield, Driver and Pass) unless you can get an Optometrist to diagnose you with some eye disorder and I hate that as it is. I can't imagine no tint at all, what a drag.

I like Texas: all the tint you want and if someone touches your stang in your driveway you can blast em, or they try to steal your rake for that matter.

You have to respect the law in order to get respect in return.

I do know that tint is not always good.
Cons;
For example It is hard to see out at night, In time the adhesive glue deteriorates especially in the heat (so when you want to take it off the back window dont use a razor blade if you have a defroster)
Pros;
It helps keep the sun off the baby in the back seat, it helps keep the car cool.

as far as that guy went(Amadou Diallo) when a cop says freeze, you freeze, you dont go reaching into your jacket for anything, even if its a wallet, the cops dont know what your getting. i live in in NYC, my uncle is a cop, my cousins are cops, they are trained to protect themselves. granted 42 shots is alot, but i do believe they had the right to fire on him.
now as for tint, just get a light tint that is still visible through and you should be ok, plus you get all the added benefits of tint as mentioned above.

Next time do your homework Perry Mason. He was entering his apartment when they cornered him and told him to freeze, he unfortuantely did not speak english and reached for his ID to give them (which he had in his hand as he lay sprawled dead). They thought he was a rape suspect and two of them emptied their clips into him. I shoot a lot and would never empty a clip into a target unless I intended to kill. You ought to check your facts before you make assumptions. If you think they had the right to fire on him you are dreadfully mistaken. If they, mind you already having their barrels trained on him, could not wait to see what he was reaching for then they are cowards and should not be allowed to have either a badge or a gun. 42 shots, yeah that is a whole lot.

This post is incredibly insensitive. stanmckinney, please keep in mind this person speaks only for himself. My thoughts are with you and the family of the fallen officer.

I am sorry if anyone has taken offense to my comments as that was not my intention. However my cousin was shot and killed by two trigger happy officers who were too afraid to be thorough, both of which were fired but saw no other punishment. I feel a great deal of pain when I hear people espouse the belief that police should be able to shoot when in doubt, our US Military is not allowed to fire unless they see a weapon or are fired upon, why should we as citizens of the US be held to a lower standard? I am sorry for his loss but many law enforcement personnel are too quick to fire when I think they should be more patient. I have great reverence for law enforcement, just not cowardice or incompetence that results in the death of another.

Whether it should happen or not, it does...

But from a less serious point of view, I'm not a fan of tinted windows. Don't know about you, but I like to be seen driving my car. And unless you're a butt-ugly guy, why wouldn't you want to be seen, especially by members of the fairer sex? That's the reason verts are so popular.

Well...hind sight is 20-20. You don't know what it's like to make a decision like that until you have to make it yourself. You can talk all day long about what they should or shouldn't have done, but it comes down to this: What if he was pulling a gun and took out one or two cops? People pull guns out of their waistbands and pockets all the time. You just don't understand until you're in the situation. It's too bad it ended in tragedy, but you are very wrong by calling it incompetence. It's hard to be patient when you think you're going to be fired upon.

It also wouldn't hurt if the guy took some time to learn some english so he could understand what is going on!

Plenty of officers are shot and killed from vehicles without tint. That being said I really have never been on the bad end of a LE encounter that I didn't have coming to me for my own actions. Most of my friends are in law enforcement. I would be as worried about the calm bastard sneaking a gun out to shoot me, as I would the guy who's on some good drugs and acting sporadically that I can't see because of dark rear tint. I suppose if it prevents one officers death it is worth it to outlaw certain darker tints. Back glass tint is usually allowed to be pretty dark anyways, is it not? Either way I will be maxing out whatever I am allowed to have in OH, as I will be handing the officer my CCP when he comes to the window with my hands on the stearing wheel and treating him with as much respect as I can have, or can beg, borrow, or steal at the time.

I went with a 3/4 dark tint on the rear three windows and love it. I think it accents the look of my car which is a black and blue mix really. In our province we can't have tint on the front three windows and outside of the occasional time when you get the sun right on you as you drive the amount of times it's been a problem has been few.

Down in really hot and sunny places like Arizona and Texas I can see it making more sense, otherwise there is little need unless you have a medical concern.

On the side notes.

I personally can see how window tint is a danger to a cop.

And 40+ shots to drop one suspect is way too many I think in anyone's view. One would have to "assume" that any cop worth their salt could subdue any target with a few well placed shots, especially with 2 cops there.

i got mine finished today, 20 on the sides, quarters and rear, 50 on the front with a 20 strip, looks alot better, keeps the car cooler and the sun out. as far as if you get pulled over, roll the windows down, at night roll them down and cut the interior lights on so the cop can see.

I can see if I have a better picture at home. Here a slight glimpse of a 2nd from darkest tint against the Vista Blue.
