Hi All,

Out of all the stangs I have owned in the last 15 years I have never replaced a starter in any of them (even having two of them with longtubes and the starter being unshielded). Anyway. Do you guys have any tips on replacing my current starter on my cobra? I looked under their and it looks pretty tight. Will the entire car need to be lifted or just the front I just picked up a shiny new pa-performance starter and I want to get it in there right away

Thanks for any information...

If you've got longtubes you may have to unbolt them! No way my starter was coming out with my longtubes (MAC).

The torque specs on the mounting bolts is 15-20 lb-ft.

get a couple extensions and go in from the front of the engine...and under the header flanges. easiest way to get the front bolt off. I got to the other bolt from under the car...but I think you can get to it from around the A-arm? not sure...

if the bolts aren't seized on, it's not a difficult job. if the bolts are seized on (like mine were) you may need a plasma torch...lol...good luck

two words, ratcheting wrench.

Granted the ARP bolts in mine were new (put in when i did the clutch 1000 miles before) but very easy. did it within an hour.

If you still have the cats you may have clearance issues getting it out and therefrore will need to remove the H-pipe as well.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I will have to look at it again today. I did a quick cursory check and all I saw was a mass of hoses/cables/exhaust (normal for a modded cobra, I guess ) when looking for that top bolt.
