If you really want grip, in addition to some suspension mods, you should consider 17x10 wheels so you can upgrade to 275/40-17s or 315/35-17s.

Currently replacing the wheels isnt feasible but something to keep in mind later on. Looking for the best tires for the money in my current size. Thanks

I've been running Falken Ziex ZE512s. I have been very impressed with these tires and they worked well for light autocross duty. This tire is getting harder to find which makes me believe they are most likely discontinuing its production. I had Fuzion ZRi before these ones. They seemed to do alright as well. Both of these tires were very affordable and offered great value for the money. The Falkens had a UTOG rating of 360 and the Fuzions were 400. Longer treadlife but less grip. But to be honest, unless you are driving your car on the edge all the time, these tires will do well.

I have always ran 245/45 R17s. This is a common perfornance tire size and will give you the most bang for your buck. The wider sizes will be a bit more pricey, but as Sharad mentioned they will offer more grip as you have a bigger contact patch with the road.

I ran 275's on my stock 5-star GT wheels without any problem. If you're concerned about longevity, get the hardest compound available.
