TKO 600 Questions...

Im still in the process of getting my stang back to active duty. I'm piecing it together part by part trying to finish. The motor is almost done from what i was told by the shop. Car is out of paint ready to go. I have been putting this car together for the past 2 months almost and I'm building a road race/street car motor will have between 400-475hp to the wheels before blower. So my old t5 is going to need to be retired. I was looking online and found a guy about 5 hours from me with a tko 600 with 3000 miles on it. He told me he would give me the bell housing clutch fork and tranny for 1700$. However it came out of a 91 gt. I guess my question is will the bell-housing fit? Is this going to be worth the 1700$? I do have an aluminum drive shaft that i will have to change to 31 spline input and i know i will need a clutch as well. What else will i need? He also has the a center force dual friction clutch and drive shaft he said he'd sell with the kit for 2150$ probably talk him down to 2k is it worth it considering i don't know the condition of the clutch? There is actually no 94-95 bellhousing available, you have to use the Fox setup, which isn't a problem because he is selling you almost everything you need. You will need a 13/16" driveshaft spacer to make it fit on an SN. I know Steeda sells one, and it's not terribly expensive. If you want to use the center hangers on your intermediary exhaust, you will need to fab something up, because the fox hangers won't work, and the SN hangers won't fit on a tko 600. I used two S hooks with washers welded to them I got from Home Depot. It's a $5 investment. $1700 is a little high. The Dual Friction clutch is out of the question. You will be way over the advertised torque limit for that clutch. You are going to need a high torque spec Spec or Mcleod. You will also need a 31 spline yolk kit as you mentioned, which is like $80. Don't forget tranny fluid in your budget. I know it's sounds miniscual, but TTC only recommends running Syncromesh in the transmission. Amsoil sells a synthetic Syncromesh for about half the price it costs you at the GM dealership. I think it's about $50 for tranny fluid just to fill it up. Does that price include a good aftermarket shifter? The stock Tremec one sucks nuts.

If you could get it for $1400, it probably wouldn't be a bad deal. Count on dropping 2 and a half bills for a good shifter. TTC claims that the positive stops in the transmission will keep you from over shifting it, but I have had that model apart many times, and the internal positive stops aren't very strong. I would get a shifter would stops on it. When you go to check the transmission out, check to make sure it shifts into every gear. Also, put it in each gear, and turn the input shaft over. If it has a busted gear tooth, it will have a tough spot, Almost like a click when you turn the input shaft over. Having 3000 miles really doesn't mean much. He could have driven it back to work for 3000 miles, or it could be 3000 miles rung up a 1/4 mile at a time on slicks. One hard launch can bust a gear.

I just sold my entire tko kit for $2150 shipped. Spent around $3k or more new so I thought that was a fair price.

I have a custom made steel driveshaft I need to sell. It's the correct length for a tko in a SN95, it just needs the correct yoke for it since I sold that with the tko.

I looked for a tko setup for quite a while and ended up just buying mine new. Couldn't justify the savings since there are a lot of horror stories of people picking up used a used trans. Of course I wouldn't hesitate buying a used one from someone reputable, like mike. But that wasn't an option when I got mine. I never used the stock shifter, went straight for the mgw, and It is definitely nice! I want to say I made my exhaust hangers work somehow, but i cant remember for sure. Good looking car by the way!

I've got my T5 rebuilt with the Astro A-5 kit good for 480HP and 550 ftlb's i love it so far we will see how it holds up on my last dyno tune coming up this week shooting for between 480-500RWHP and 550-600 ftlb's we'll see how the tranny does Astro also sells one stronger kit than my kit. Tranny shifts like butter and I've beaten it up on the autocross for a half a year so far.

I bit the built and just went ahead a bought a new tranny kit from promotion. Everything came out to around 3200$. Car is sitting at the bodyshop as we speak waiting for the motor to be finished. It really sucks having all of these beautiful new parts just sitting in my garage waiting for there time to shine.

You'll love the tko. Get the steeda triax shift handle, you will thank yourself. The tko-600 already has a short throw in it so a short throw shifter will be a waste of money, just get the handle. As far as servicing it, I found the recommended 3 quarts of GM syncromesh fluid at autozone for 12 bucks a quart. Just make sure you break it in right. I ended up having synchro issues because I was too eager to smash through the gears.

I'm not too familiar with the shifter on the TKO-600, but being a short throw doesn't make it a good shifter.
