I have a 1994 mustang gt with an aode. I am swapping it out for a tko-500.

What can I expect for problems during the swap?

I also have a problem somewhere in my drivetrain. under enitial load and also in reverse i have a really bad clunking/kinda grinding noise happening, any thoughts?

thank you

Why a TKO-500 not a TKO-600? I think if I were spending that kind of cash I would go with the 600 jsut since it is only short money more than the 500...

I know it does not answer your question so free bump for ya...

I like the lower gear in the 500 and also the 600 is a 28 spline input shaft.

You wil most likely have to make spacers out of washers or something similiar for the trans crossmember, and a little modification to it so it fits correctly. your loud clunking may be u joints/really worn rear end/or you front end a arm bushings are really worn along with lower ball joints will also make that sound, especially if you put in in gear with brake on, or under load, check u joint first though that would be easiest, push on drive shaft at the joint up and down to check for movement.

Do a search....i made a thread along with many others about this very subject.

Index your bellhousing....if u dont know how, search about it. I crossed my fingers and hoped i would come out ok. I did my swap and had a vibration at 80mph on the freeway. The car isnt running so i have plenty of time to check over things but its best to do it in the beginning.

You bought a whole new driveshaft just to try to fix that noise? I sure hope you still had the stock piece and not a aluminum one.

You should try to put it up on a hoist, start the car, and see if u can tell where its coming from. If its not the u-joints, then my next guess would be something in the rear end.

I think he's talking about 1st gear which stays similar to the stock t-5 at like 3.35 or something. Thats gonna be a pain later on down the line when he's making some good power and a 3.733, 4.10, or 4.30 in the back. 1st gear will be useless.

i was going to buy an aluminum d/s anyway.
i put the car up on jack stands but it wouldn't make the noise.
it only makes the noise when it is in gear never does it when it is in neutral.
i just put 3.90's in the rear probly two months ago. began to make the noise one month ago one week after i went to the track.

If your gonna go with a TKO you need a driveshaft for a 96-98 cobra and a driveshaft spacer. Also needa special bellhousing think it one for the cobra also. You must index the bellhousing.Taking mine back out now.

what? a 96/98 cobra driveshaft?
why is that?

He should be able to use any 5spd driveshaft from 93 and under.
And use the spacer still.
with a tko.

The 96-98 uses the same length as a 5spd 5.0 fox?

I think the 96-98 either already has the right yoke or its the right length. I forget though.

a driveshaft for a 5.0 will work fine with the right yoke and a spacer.

I always thought this was a smarter move, because when people swap to T-5s and buy a new T5 its only like 300 more for a new TKO which will last a million times longer. If i can remember from my swap i needed
Bell Housing
Clutch Fork
TKO-500
Offset Transmount
31 Spline Yoke
Driveshaft Spacer
3qts GM Syncromesh
