Are you sure the first pic is a 4 banger auto stick? As far as I remember, that's what my shifter used to look like. Not anymore though :)

For stock AOD's, I think it's pretty funny. On the street, I think driving a stick is a lot more fun, and makes you much more "in tune" with the car. It is just a more enjoyable experience in my opinion.

Built autos for the track on the other hand, are bad mutha suckas.

The 4 cyl has a separate position for OD and drive, the 5 liter only has OD, 2, 1
 
The AOD cars had OD, D, 1... there was no 2 on the shifter. Thats why you had to do the 1-D-1 shuffle, because it wouldnt hold 2nd without you putting it in D and then pulling back into 1 to hold it. I know, I did this for a couple years.

Autos in fast cars can be fun, but stick are just more fun for some people. I can see myself driving a car that my mother or sister can drive faster because they weigh less. This is why I drive a standard and always will, I like to be part of the track times!
