To convert to HID or not?

I'm looking for people that have converted to HID headlights. I found a kit sold by Retro-Solutions.com that really looks great. H13 bulb, 55W (instead of 35W) digital control, Bi-xenon (high & low beams) and all with a lifetime warranty. $180 shipped, Christmas special. I really like HID lights, but I don't want to be a menace to oncoming drivers. Anybody here made the switch? How was the experience? Help me make up my mind. No, I'm not going to spend a grand for '08 HID's or Saleens.

I'm considering the switch this spring, so I'm interested also. Actually, I was just talking to a guy at O'Reilly's and we were discussing just that... whether I should order some Nokya bulbs, or go HID. I'm just worried about installation difficulty and the dreaded buzz that some experience from most kits.

HID?

If you look into the Retro-Solutions.com kits, you'll see they're a cut above the rest of the kits. I'm not familiar with this buzz problem you mentioned - what is it?
By the way, there's a guy on Mustang Forums that is starting a group buy on the Retro-Solutions.com kits. Just a hint.
If you decide to go bulbs instead of HID, I recommend Silverstars. I think they're the closest to HID while staying with bulbs.

I already have Silverstars. They were a little more white than the stockers, but don't really seem to be any brighter. The guy I talked to said he runs Nokya's and they're as close to HID as you can get. But who knows? I hate to spend $50 for something that's not any better.

Some people, even with factory '08 HID's complain of a buzzing coming from the relay's for the HIDs under the hood. So that's one thing I would check on.

I had Nokyas on my 240SX they lasted about a year then one popped. The trick to their brightness is them being 80W/130W Bulbs!

That means two things. A: you're draining your battery, B: you're frying your harness. Seriously the heat those things generated could not have been safe!

I then went with an HID Kit. It was literally a night/day difference but the glare is something you can't get rid of and that's because you're putting an HID bulb in a lens/reflector that was not designed for that type of lighting (read illegal).

I would like to have a dual HID set with the headlights being 5K HIDs and the driving light being 3K HID fog lights.

ebay has them for 70-90 bucks ... I just ordered mine today at work.. got 6k for the driving lights and 5k for the fogs ! over all 145 included shipping !

Actually, the Nokya's I was looking at were 55watts.

i switched to HIDs, and i love them i can see everything lol, i got the 8000kit from americanmuscle.com, its an awesome kit the quality is the best ive seen from the aftermarket HID kits. However just about everytime i drive the car at night i get flashed at least once, it almost makes me want to take them out....but i dont want to go back to regular bulbs....

These kits that you are all talking about are a really bad idea. The reason you keep getting flashed is because your new HID's put off a lot of glare. If you want HID lights there are correct ways of doing it and buying these cheep kits are not it.

Actually, the American Muscle and retro-solutions kits have the same cut-off as the stock bulbs, they're just brighter. But some of the cheaper kits don't. That's the thing you have to watch. Even if they don't give people glare, they're brighter than standard bulbs, and some people don't realize what HIDs are (read: Octagenarians) and just think you have your brights on.

Pinche: I did quite a bit of reading.

I ordered the 35 Watt Bi-Xenon 6000K kit reom Retro-Solutions. I was a bit afraid of the 55 Watt kit. I can't wait for them to show up. I believe these kits to be the highest quality. They also carry a lifetime warranty.

GOLDENPONY: hey no offense but if you would have done any reading at all on that forum you would have not bought a Plug And Play (PNP) kit. Just register at that forum and do a search for PNP or even glare....

In my honda I had a HID projector retro fit done. I was looking at adding
HID's in my new Mustang but I just don't know about adding a plug and play
But then I look at the Stock HID's from ford and don't see how those lights
do anything to the light cut off? Plus I don't know how it would be with having HID's
in the headlights and stock bulbs in the fogs. I don't think putting HID's in the
fogs would be good at all.
