Right now I'm running a BBK Off Road X pipe with 2 chamber Flowmasters, and it sounds terrible. That being said, I ordered two Magnaflows for it this morning. When they get here Friday, I'm facing a dilemma:

I'm going to have the Flowmasters cut out of the stock pipes and get the Magnaflows welded in to the stock pipes. One of the guys here at work suggested I dump the exhaust down right out of the mufflers, eliminating the rest of the tailpipes. Is anybody here running an Off Road X pipe with Magnaflows dumped (jackie chan?).

Which do you think will sound better - dumped or out the back? Any downsides to being dumped right in front of the rear axle? Thanks alot!

yeah it may not be street legal dumped IMO chambered mufflers should never be used w/ an X pipe ,especially off road, and definately being a crappy BBK o/r X no wonder it sounds bad. IMO get the Magnaflows, and run tailpipes. Will be plenty loud.

Just dump the Flowmasters first, see if YOU like the exhaust note. Then, if you're not happy, try the Magnaflows. Every muffler out there will sound drastically different from full tails to dumped. I recently drove an '02 with a VRS o/r x and 40 series Flowmasters (non-Delta flow) dumped at the axle. It sounded incredible, especially inside the car!
What have you got to lose? You're cutting 'em out anyway. Why not experiment with them first?

If you're only concerned with being loud, dumbing will satisfy you. But as far as performance goes, it will hurt you. IMO flowmasters sound best with Hpipes. If you're adding Magnaflow Magnapacks, then it will sound loud and good with that x-pipe. Magnaflow magnaflow will sounds a lil less loud, but plenty.

Whatever you go with, exhaust sound is a personal preference and like someone said, just try them out for yourself or try to hear what other ppl have.

Be prepared to gag on exhaust fumes when sitting in traffic. An offroad midpipe and dumps make a stink. Be there, done that.

I was just about to say. Never mind the sound, it's the smell that would get to me. Having a headache 24/7 sucks! I put tailpipes back on my LX in a hurry after experiencing that a few times!

I've heard the same thing about the fumes. A work around is to install some dump valves.
As far as the losing power comment goes...no way! Less back pressure will make more horsepower above 3500. At the track, that's where just about all of us live...above 3500. Dumping is worth atleast 1 mph, all else being equal.

i think its your xpipe more than anything. Dump it, see what it sounds like. If it still doesnt sounds good to you, try a prochamber or the mustangtuning.com o/r xpipe. (if u can afford the dr. gas, go for it too)I think you will be amazed at the new sound from one of those midpipes.

I am dumped with flows and I get compliments all the time. It sounds nice (turns heads)...but I am still looking for louder. Sorry to steal your post, but can I go any louder without getting horibble sounding loud?

If you do dumps be prepared for major drone and vibration. I have done dumps with a Bassani X-pipe and a o/r H-pipe. It will be loud in the cab at lower rpm (1000-1800)

I suggest you weld in the Magnaflows and see how you like it. I think you will like the Magnaflows with the X-pipe and tailpipes. If it's not loud enough to suit you, you can always remove the tailpipes later and weld in turn-downs. I have Kooks longtubes, 3" O/R X-pipe, and dumped Dynomax Ultraflows. I like the sound, but it is very loud around town and at WOT. Cruising down the highway, it is not loud at all and there is no drone. I tried dumped 2 chamber Flows and it droned so bad, I couldn't stand it. Oh yes, I don't get all the fumes people are talking about. That's just not an issue.
