i am considering using thrush glasspacks that have a 3" in and a 2" out, they have a 3-bolt flange that blots right up to the headers, some people have told me that this is not wise. any comments??

I would say, that would be like choosing if you want it to sound like an old pulpwood truck, or a beat up 4x4. Get a nice complete exhaust system with real mufflers and enjoy.

Just a warning...
Mufflers mounted right to the collector get way too much heat and don't live long.
Especially glass (or other fiber) packed mufflers. Heat is the enemy.
Flow is not good either.
Exhaust gasses shrink as they cool and flow better through mufflers that are placed further back in the system.

Good luck
Dave

Can you say DRONE? Since my favorite neighbor likes to call the police on me I decided to go ahead and buy these just to get the car to the muffler shop instead of going uncapped. Its no way to handle your exhaust, a shop can do a dual system fairly cheap and you'll be much happier with it. Or save up and buy a magnaflow 2.5" system as I did and your car will sound like a modern muscle car, I cant say enough about that X pipe.

+1 on the X pipe and mufflers either dumped at the axle or all the way back. Bad idea with the glasspacks, you won't be happy. I have had a few different types of mufflers, Flowmaster 2 chamber and the ones I have now, Borla XR1. The Borla's with my Dr. Gas X have a very unique sound, quieter than the flowmasters at idle but wicked loud and great sound at WOT...

Not cheap, but pretty sweet set up. You can get a 2.5" at a muffler shop with a decent muffler pretty reasonable. My first X pipe was made by the shop I took it to and they did a great job.

Here is a pic of my set up now as modeled by my son;
