Is It hard to change the fuel filter on a 2001 stang? & where Is It located, under the car right?
It has 22000. miles, so should It be a good Idea to change It?
No it isn't to hard to replace. It is behind the gas tank under the car. You need a fuel line/AC disconnect tool, like 10 bucks at local auto store, use the tool to disconnet fuel line from filter and put neww one in, the line is pressurized so be careful of fuel spraying out when you disconnect it. They say to depressureize the system before you do this I just wait a day then the pressure drops over time and isn't so bad. But there is another tool you can buy to depressureize it if you want, but isn't necessary. Just be careful of your eyes when doing this, were goggles or something. Fuel filter is like 10 to 15 bucks or so.
While it is never a "bad" idea to replace a fuel filter on an older car, if you have been the original owner, I am not sure I would replace at 22k. Other factors may apply like you may have big power adders that would require more fuel than a stock setup, but I would guess a well cared for car would not need a filter replaced until 100k or more.
Unless you run the tank low and are not picky about your gas, I don't think it would need replacing.
be carefull with the line diconnect tool..theres like little metal things that lock it in place..if u bend those your screwed..just push them in ..then pull line..dont fool around with the tool 2much
I replace mine yearly wether it needs it or not. Nothing wrong with over maintaing it, oil changes I do quite often as well. tranny fluid and coolant. I am overprotective. Sparkplugs and air filter cleaning quite regularly. Call me crazy.
Too make sure the fuel system is depressurized you can shut the fuel pump with a switch in your trunk. It is on the left(drivers) side when you open the trunk. You'll see a hole in the trunk lining material and there is a plastic button, if you lift the button up using the slot that is there it will shut the fuel pump. Then try to start the car and it should either not start or start and stall in a second. Then to turn it back on just push the button back down.
