That is the question. Less than one month away from the annual W.O.W here in Birmingham. February 10-12, with a load in Thursday night the 9th. The last time I did this was with the red car,..and it was......... how to put it........
Somewhat cheezy.
They supposedly have a standard there as a minimum for how the cars are displayed, but I found that standard to be poorly enforced. I went through a lot of stuff the last time to get to that standard only to have the guy next to me throw down a white canvas drop cloth, while the other guy on the other side rolled out the green plastic indoor/outdoor carpet as the substrate for their cars to sit on.
In other words,.....I got put in the trailer park.
That's not entirely true considering that there was easily a 50k car w/ a multiple thousand dollar display right in front of me,..and another guy on the other side of the aisle w/ over 100k in cars and bikes displayed directly across. But the fact that they allowed the standard to swing so wildly tells you that they can't fill these venues if they really stick to their rules.
I don't think that I'm braggin when I say that I think that I had a good display considering:
But it was a lot of work. Not just rounding up and building all that junk, getting it there and back as well as the car. The carpet tiles were easy enough to assemble, and my " crowd control barrier" railing and stanchions were obviously painted PVC. With the entrance fee, and the ancillary display costs it did end up costing just shy of 200 bucks........for a chance to win a big plastic trophy.
The experience was probably worth it in the end,..but this time around, I got a job. This time around, I'll be at work for most of the day Friday and Saturday while the car sits unattended. This time around, I do not have my old work van (Eddie Van Haulin) to get the hundreds of pounds of carpet tiles, and the armloads of painted 6' long sections of painted PVC (that I have to go out and buy again that can only be used for this one time) down to the auditorium.
This time around it's gonna be even more of a pain............sigh.
But the recount of my last experience almost makes it worth it.....I just don't know if I'm up to it.
