I am going to order some Tikico 5ways today for my 99. My question is I have read some people talking about not getting the standard 5ways after you have put the Sport Line spings on your car because it sits so much lower. Anyone know anthing about this? what shoudl I get?
I have heard of people putting on Fox body struts/shocks for lowered cars. I think if you call Tokico they will give you some information about it.....
I went through the exact same thing last week. I called Tokico and couldn't even get a tech on the phone. It was like they only had one and he was at lunch or something. Didn't call me back. Very unprofessional. So I called MM.They told me that the fox's would work on the front only and only if it was lowered more than 1.5. Since the fox is shorter it would have better travel somehow when you lowered it.Preload or lack of travel( the reason you get foxes) doesnt really matter if you DON'T get the foxs because of the design.IT was all about the travel. Im still confused about that one. Then they told me that The premiums AKA the mach or bullitt design are only like a 2 at best and not a 3 like everyone thinks. I was calling about H&R SS so he said the Illuminas would match up better with the spring rates. But I don't to spend $1000 to lower my car so I am still going to go with Mach 1 setup. I don't know if I even answered your question.
I think the 5 ways woudl be better for the drag because you can soften them up. I liked the bilstiens because of their quality reputation. the bilstiens were only $30 more on ebay so I just went with them. koni's were like $100 more and I almost went with them but just said screw it and went with a fixed setup.
the main thing to remeber is a lowered car with stock cc plates and a normal length strut is that the stock strut is to long. the strut will be compressed at all times a bit. fox body tokico's are 1" shorter. it is not a total fix for the sportline springs. CC plates can fix this problem all together. they give you shims to offset you stuts by the amount you lower the car.
You might want to check these out fromStrange Engineering . They are alot cheaper than the tokico's and it gives you 10 adjustments not 5. These are the ones I think I am going to go with.
Hognutz, that is the first I heard mention of the shims that come with the C/C plates. Can you tell us how they are used in the set up, and is this something most mfg's do, or is it just MM?
