The people at the shop put in more than 6qts of oil into the crankcase for my oil change..They did it without my consent, I just found this out today when I checked the dipstick. The oil is right at the full mark and I know that it should be right near the middle of low and full when you put 6 in. Should I drain about a quart or so? Or is this nothing to worry about? I've driven about 500 miles with the extra oil.

I know, I'll be doing my own oil changes from now on.

the dipsticks aren't exact

if you put in 6 quarts and it's always at a certain mark, that's where 6 quarts is. if you think they put in more, drain it out. (i always put 5  )

it's always better to be a little low on oil than a little high

You've still got some oil change places that have no clue how many quarts a Mustang takes. You give them 6 quarts and they only put in 5, or they put in 6 and see the oil at only halfway on the dipstick, so they add more till it reads full, then it's overfull. definitely best to do it yourself and etch a mark on the dipstick for 6 quart level.

If they put in more than 6 I would drain it. Don't want to risk blowing some seals.

There has been a lot of debate on the whole 5 qts or 6qts issue. I usually have about 5.5 in mine just to be in the middle.

As for blowing some seals, I'll leave that to the penguines :D

Whenever I check my oil, it's quite a bit over the full mark. Even after i get it changed and tell them not to put too much in, they just act like i'm a dumbass or something. Will this hurt anything for it to be that full?

like i said before, the dipsticks aren't accurate. yours might read that as normal

only way to know for sure is to change it yourself, put 5 quarts in (6?) and then check it again. if it's still above 'max' it's normal, if it's not don't take it to that place again. buy your own oil and do it yourself or take it somewhere with the oil you bought and have them put that in. i don't trust those 'oil guns' they use

Mine is probably just reading it right, but i'll try changing it myself next time. See how that does. It's been high ever since i've had it, and the previous owner got it changed at a Ford dealership also. So, I figured that it's just reading high

there was a thread awhile back that said ford changed the size of the oil pan so no one knew how much oil to put in, hell i'm not even sure to this day on my car, that's why i only put 5 quarts. your car might take 5 quarts and this whole time everyone has been putting 6

:OT:
do you have any pics of your rims? i recently found some pics that showed that the chrome ford racing fr500's weren't all chrome, just the faces of the spokes (i think). pics weren't too good so i can't be sure. i've seen the aftermarket ones being all chrome (which i don't like). also where'd you buy 'em?

I bought my car with them on it already, but here's some pictures.

Edit: I believe the previous owner ordered them from a Ford Dealership, but i'm not 100% sure. I know they're Ford Racing rims, becuase it's got the name Ford Racing branded into the lips of all 4 wheels. :D

i used to put 5 when my car was in stock form cause' it said 5 on the sticker in front of the engine. however, from the day i have my stroker, i always put 6 cause' 5 is too low
so i have no idea.
