No one really goes for top speed, what's the point? Where would you do it?
Likely illegal and not safe, most of us run out of gear too. Top speed to me is a childhood stat, something that matters when you don't know a lot about cars.

geez.. 180 mph.. hit a pebble at that speed, and your car is in a ditch somewhere, likely in 2 pieces.

also, all the power in the world isn't going to achieve max speed potential. Weight, gearing, aerodynamics plays a huge factor and is one reason why some exotics would top my car despite making a lot less power.

i'll go ahead and tell you from experience that mustangs dont handle for **** at anything above 150 mph.

i topped mine in 5th a few years back just after the T56 install. it pegged the speedo and still had a gear left. that was with under 400 HP on the stock bottom end.

now i dont do anything above a 4th gear pull ever! too much can go wrong

Anyone think he might be more mature then you all make him seem and he would be doing this on a closed course?

Mustang owners should never be concerned about "top speed" the cars are just not safe or designed for it unless specifically built for the purpose by the owner at great expense.

Since when is top speed runs in a supercharged stock otherwise for all we know mustang even on a closed course a smart or mature thing to do?

And don't you think if he was planning to go to Bonniville he would have mentioned it?

ive put my gt with out a supercharger to 170 and still had plenty to go in 5th gear on a closed road and with just the suspension kit that i had it did not vibrate or shake or in this case try to fly it was smooth as if i was just doing 65 mph on the highway

Ive topped mine out several times (145-150) not supercharged, alot of these guys are scared to go over 100mph because its "unsafe" if that was the case the car would not be allowed to go any faster than that. Find a good stretch of road and give it a go.

I got to 150 with my 4.10s after I did my PI swap. I was in fifth gear at around 5500 RPMs. I didn't have anywhere else to go.

i'm gonna have to call BS on that. mine would barely hit 145 as a full bolt on car. that was on a VERY VERY long top gear pull. i dont see it being possible to hit 170 on a non FI car.

hell i dont know if mine would hit that

I've seen 135 before I backed off, but the speedo was still going. The car actually felt 100% stable at that speed. But if you have to make an emergency maneuver, you are pretty much toast.

I tried to top it out post 4.10's, but ran into some TERRIBLE driveline vibes at 130. Sucks because it was pulling much better in 5th at that speed than it did running out of 4th, or just shifting into 5th with stock gears.

No desire to try it again any time soon, but maybe if the right conditions arise.
