well folks, today represents a major milestone in my life. almost seventeen years after quitting high school i am going to college. i paid my tuition today and i have registered for my classes. i can't tell you how good it feels. i feel like i'm getting a chance to make up for all the stupid mistakes i made when i was a younger man. i'm a chef by trade, and i have worked in the field since i was a kid. my family owns a few restaurants back home and i was raised in the environment. i have been a chef for a long time now, but it always bothered me that i didn't have my degree. well now i am enrolled at one of the best culinary education centers in the southeast. i'm very excited to get going. nowi just have ot figure out if they will let me use tnt in ice carving class.........

Wow - congratulations! Signing up for classes is 3/4's of the battle when you haven't gone to school in a while. I envy you because I've wanted to do the same thing for a while now - just haven't been able to take the plunge yet!

I did graduate high school but only went to college for a year and bombed while I was there. But let me start at the beginning...
My father was in the military and I went to a number of schools as a kid. I was always considered smart by teachers and always had great grades. My move to Buffalo, NY is what did me in.
I ended up in an inner city school for 10th through 12th grade. Because of the low life school I attended, I NEVER STUDIED, did homework in homeroom, hung out with losers, and still managed a 90.43 average. I graduated 7th out of 301 without even trying.
I carried my bad friends and habits into college and completely ruined a really good scholorship I won while in HS. I ended up quitting and got a sales job at a regional big box retailer (similar to Best Buy).
I now am the head buyer and product manager for the company I work for, and it's a great position to be in, but I still really want to get my degree. I feel it's a hole in my life story and I'm determined to get back to school to do what I should have done back in 94 - STUDY HARD and accomplish something that some people take for granted.

So - back to you - I have a lot of respect for what you are doing. It's very hard to start school up again, but you will have a huge sense of accomplishment (and hopefully more $$) when you graduate!

Congrats! :nice:

I finished H.S., but then when the USMC discharged me, I went into the local college and took Automotive Technology. Went for over a year, quit when I only had a few classes left. I stayed in the field, I am now a ASE Master Tech but I contacted my old instructor and I am waiting to see if I got this one job and if I do, I'm going back to finish the school and get an associates degree in applied science. I might learn something while I am there, who knows.
